Ya gotta know the rules
I could see adoption of many/all of these could really speed up the game.
New rule: Committees are given the discretion to mark all penalty areas as red so that lateral relief is always...
Has anyone tried this
Playing Equinelle hole number 8.
Pin in back.
Player is in the sand short to the right of the green.
Air mails the green with bunker shot and it lands in the water over the back of the green on the fly. (Tough shot)
The player took a drop just inside the red stake.
I am under the understanding...
hi there guys i know this probably never happens but i was curious as to what a amateur golfer can and cannot accpet ($$$) money wise.
Of course they cannot accept any winnings , but for example , if Tiger woods became a amateur golfer and say the tournament organisers would want to give him a...
Is it legal to change clubs when you are taking relief from a cart path?
A rules official once told me I could use my driver to take my stance then once relief was given switch clubs.
I thought you had to take your stance with the club you were going to use?
In match play.
4 players individual matches.
Player A sees spike marks in his line. Comments on them but does not fix them.
He putts then fixes the cleat marks before all the other competitors have putted out.
Is that OK
Very small detail but sometimes you have lots of time on greens.
( I did...
On the third hole at Le Geant at Mont Tremblant yesterday, one of the deer standing around the hole came over and started to lick my ball, which caused it to move off the back fringe and onto the green.
I replaced the ball, which I believe falls under rule 18-1, an outside agency, before I...
Not sure if there is a rule or is it etiquette. Where is the correct place to leave a rake, in or out of the bunker? I always thought in but saw during the women's US Open yesterday they are out, and by 2-3 feet.
In a match play event.
Player A hits his ball into the woods. It is red staked.
He looks briefly for it but can't find it. So he drops a ball and is about to play.
Then he realizes his tee shot had kicked out onto the fairway!
He has not hit the dropped ball.
He asks if he can hit his original...
Rule 24-2 b(i) says "The nearest point of relief must not be in a hazard or on a putting green. " The situation is that a right handed player has a ball lies on the cart path. The nearest relief point is in a water hazard but the second relief point is on the other side of the cart path where is...
Second shot a 3 wood to a completely unplayable lie (looked great in the air)..would need to take 4 strokes 8 club lengths to find a playable spot..crowded course can't walk back 220 yards.....how do we deal with this since the option of going back is really not feasible although clearly the best...
Team A's putts are both away against Team B on a par 5 and are both putting for birdie.
Team A player 1 putts and leaves it 5 ft short. (Dang!)
Team A player 2 would like Team A player 1 to putt out to see if he can sink the par putt.
Here is the problem: for Team A player 1 to take his stance...
I'm wondering if the new rule about solo play rounds not being eligible for HC purposes will affect many golfers. Before I got injured two years ago I played at least twice a week alone.
Can anyone tell me if Finau who won in Puerto Rico did the right thing in the final round when he hit his ball into the hazard, and took a penalty drop. I saw him drop his ball once, then he dropped it again and then he picked it up and repositioned it in the waste bunker. It just seemed odd to me....
Curious as to what the issue would be. Also curious as to the better players opinion of how and if it would help.
While revising our conditions of competition for 2016 the question arose whether or not to permit play on the competition course between the 2 rounds of our senior club championship strokeplay.
Why would we do that, well, it seems that some of the men still have the energy after 18 holes, to play...
My ball ended up up against a tree. The tree is about two feet on the left side of a cart path and I am right handed.
It is a big tree.
This is not hazard.
My best shot to advance the ball is to hit it left handed. This puts my feet on the cart path.
What is my nearest point of relief?
Played today in match play and my opponent jarred his second shot from 100 out. When we got up to the hole most of the ball was above the hole and stcuk against the flag. He lifted the flag by pushing it and the ball fell in. Is there a rule on this or how it played out was good to go?
A question for the rules minded folks...
A photo to help so have a look.
I hit my tee shot up against a tree. I'm a righty so I was totally stymied, there was no way for me to hit that shot.
So I flip my club over to hit it lefty and my partner points out I'm standing on the road and now...
So friend and I are wondering on what he should have done.
In the greenside bunker in front of green (side farthest from water/clubhouse).
Hits ball out of bunker, over green, over the water and lands on the grass on the otherside (to the left).
We don't recall if that...
Saw this in the Ottawa Citizen:
I think this is the same as the USGA system. If your goal is to decrease your handicap next year, this change will make that more difficult.
Wild parsley is spreading. Even if a groundskeeper dresses in a hazmat suit and cuts it down, the broken stems are dangerous.
There are two areas of it currently on my course. One is OB, so the ball is simlpy a write-off. The other is internal. It's in an area that normally has thick brush...
I see that Rule 33-1/6 states that you cannot play a match and a stroke play competition at the same time.
My question is does a stableford scoring system meet the criteria to be the stroke play competition? Or said another way can you play a match and turn in a stableford score from the...
White tees 70.0/118
Red tees 65.0/ 106
Two men with 7 hdcps are playing a match. One has only ever played from the reds and the other only ever played from the whites.
My understanding for their match the calculation is: 70.0-65.0=5
So the player from the red must give the player from...
I find it much easier, and enjoyable, to follow rules if I can understand the rationale for the rule. One that I don't understand is the prohibition of grounding your club in a hazard.
It wasn't always that way. The 1829 rules of the Society of Saint Andrews Golfers simply said "no obstruction...
Dear Golf Canada,
Eliminate white stakes and make them all red stakes.
The majority of golfers
Question for you rule gurus.
So we all know the local rules regarding hitting a wire or tower and that is to replay the ball and there is no choice in doing so. We also know that if the tower interferes with the players stance or swing, that they get relief.
My question relates to...
A player is setting up to putt.
They take a practice stroke. There was no intention of hitting the ball.
The practice stroke grazes the golf ball. The ball occilates but does not move.
What is the ruling?
Question two. What happens if the ball moves slightly during the practice...
On Friday playing a fun match with buddies, when my ball landed in casual water in the rough about 180 yards to the green. A tree was about 20 yards ahead of it and to my left.
I took my stance outside the casual water's edge to the right and drop the ball one club away. My buddies disagreed...
two players play 'Stroke Play' from the white tees and have handicaps of 16 & 20. then for a match play game can the 20 handicapper move up and play the forward tees to gain an advantage ?
So here is the scenario. You hit your ball on a par 3 and it hits the bank and rolls down into a red-staked hazard. Crossed the margin. Instead of taking a drop, you decide you can play the ball. Take your swing and hit the ball but don't advance it much and it is now in a much worse position. Now...
Is it against the rules to install a pistol putter grip on a club other than your putter? I don't think so but my father-in-law needs to know, he wants to istall a jumbo on his chipper.
In my round this weekend my friend and I both hit drives and we thought the would be close to each other. Both balls ended up lined up along the length of the hole, essentially touching. Whats the ruling on playing the ball (s)? Does the rear golfer hit the ball as is and they both play the result?...
Thanks folks for answering my rules questions.
It really helps.
So a boundary fence has a cart path running right beside it.
A player hits a tee shot that results in the ball resting between the fence and the cart path.
The player's stance is on the cart path. Their swing is inhibited by the...
Playing Stonebridge, hole 12.
Tee shot lands just over the cart path.
There is approx 6 ft of room between me and the hazard.( I am right handed)
I can take my stance put my first tee in the ground. My second tee will be in the hazard.
There is about one foot of drop area between the two tees...
I'm not the greatest golf,but love the game,happy when I break 90
Here's the thing,I am usually the highest scorer of my foursome, but one guy fluffs the ball every shot, yes every one,the other guys fluff a bad lie.i always play it as it lays as I see it as a important part of the game.they say...
So playing Metcalfe today and hit hydro wires off the tee,so they tell me to re-load.
What are the chances i hit the wires again i said. Bingo !!! I proceeded to go and hit the second ball where it was.Is this the right way or should i have reloaded a third time.
Just lucky i guess.
My son has started a rules questioning on instagram with pictures. His user name is @golfrules4u , pretty cool idea.
Someone told me that they were watching an LPGA event on TV, when a golfer was allowed to remove her ball from a bunker, with free relief, on the basis that the bunker was part of a different hole than the one she was playing.
Is this true, and if so, is there some rule or decision that can be...
I actually had this happen to me a few years ago. My ball came to a stop on top of a cut stump along the edge of a fairway. What would the ruling be? Play it where it lies or man made obstruction?
What some of the top etiquette rules to cover (in your opinion) when introducing golf to a beginner?
A painful question.
I attempted to back into a tree to take my stance. It was a very large thorn bush! Needless to say I leapt out from that bush wth a howl. Much to the delight of my friends!
So, I took a drop. My question is what is the ruling when a plant is injurious to your health?...
Is it allowable to place your palm on the putting surface and sweep back and forth to remove any debris or sand from your putting line ?
Players both agree before playing hole 16 that it is to dark to continue beyond that hole. At the completion of hole 16 player A says no, I want to continue to hole 17. Player B says no and leaves the course.
What is the ruling?
Do it make a difference if player B has cater acts and has...
Player A has to give player B 14 strokes.
Player A says no strokes on par 3's Player B agrees. But according to the card one of the par 3's should have been a stroke hole. Is this legal or do players have to use the card's hole handicap ratings?
Play is suspended in the...
