Spring Conditions 2009
Just thought I would start this thread for 2009. Not sure if we can get a sticky so this doesn't get lost in the shuffle.
Update spring conditions here after your round !

Played Calabogie yesterday and it was not very wet considering the time of year, still had snow in many places although most wouldn't affect your play unless you happen to land it in. Two holes, one on the front and one on the back still had snow on the greens and had a temp flag.
We rode carts and to be honest the last couple holes weren't fun as my hands were at the point of not functioning properly to grip the club well or care for that matter , I just wanted to finish the 18 to have a score for March 20th
greens were not that bad really, hard to judge as the first couple we found really slow, and then the next couple only slow. Slow in general though, I had 37 putts adding two for each hole with temp flag as a rough estimate for the round.
It was fun to get out, just to say we did although I will wait for a little warmer weather to get out again.Last edited by Chadillac; 03-21-2009 at 05:01 PM. Reason: grammar

Played Calabogie today and it was in great shape considering its March 21st. For $25 I had no problem, my only dig is that on 16 they stuck the pin right beside some water collection and snow when they had the entire other side of the green to stick it. Other than that, it was awesome to get out.

I agree with everything - really dry (probably because the water in the ground is frozen still
Agree also with the pin placement at 16, very odd to put it only about 1 foot away from a huge puddle and snow bank when the rest of the green was clear and dry. I still marked my 4 on the card
nice to swing the club todayScott - Golf...Fail.

Dryer than I expected but I agreed...What the he!! was with the pin on 16, there was at least 3500 square feet of dry green and they stuck the pin next to this non-sense snowy puddled area like it was some sort of hazard.
All in all, awesome day, I'll be there again Friday

Cedar Glen
Played Cedar Glen today (back 9 only) - $12 for 9 or $20 for 18. A bit of snow and water around the tee box on 11, but the rest of the course was bone dry! Greens were slow and bumpy (hardly unexpected) - but decent enough. Nice to get out and swing the sticks again.

Prescott had some really good greens for this time of the year.Fairways a bit damp and balls plugging a lot.I got a tip from John who was behind me and he told me to keep my balls lower to the ground. The wife thought that was hilarious cause at my age they are already close enough ,if you know what i mean.LOL.
All in all,a great suny day with the wife(her B-day) and our son.Worth the trip up and 30.00.

Played Pakenham today.....very soggy but playable. Kinda like playing after a rain storm (with the odd stretch of snow going across your fairway ). Greens were brown as to be expected and quite inconsistent also to be expected I suppose. But if you don't want to trudge around in the water and slush....I'd go with Calabogie. At least there were no temp greens. Only Lake and Island were open. We teed off around noon and paid $30.

Was there this morning with 1972Apex and 6Wood.
The warmer weather's bringing a bit of moisture from the frost out of the ground, but it was still pretty dry! I've played in wetter conditions for more money, to be sure.
The grass was even noticably greener by the time we started our second circuit
Nothing to complain about for $20 in March.Wannabe Golf

First round is in the books. Mapleview was in great shape for this time of year. One hole (#5) was closed. It's a par 3 in the shade, with some snow still present, but all others were very playable. Greens were slow and still had some aeration holes from the fall. Great to get out swinging in March!

Dragonfly was in pretty good shape today. Front 9 was in very good shape (for March), pretty dry. Nine was the wettest hole, and there was a lot more moisture on the back, but nothing terrible.
Man, golfing in shorts in March, talk about a great start to the year!

First round in the books here as well....played Pakenham with Geoff and I'll certainly take an 88 with the highlight being a 4 iron to 4 feet on the Island green on the Island course - I made the putt to boot for the first bird of the year

My first par of the year (3rd hole) lead to a run of 5 in a row. Not talking about the other stuff. That was enough to make my day.
That was while watching my buddy Mike make 6 birdies on the round. He took the lion's share of the $$$$. Not bad for his second round of the year.Life dinnae come wit gimmies so yuv got nae chance o' gitt'n any from me.

Played my first round of the year today as well. Played Prescott golf course with the SlammerTour. The course was in great condition. The greens were actually green and runninh fast for this time of the year. No snow whatsoever left on the course and very dry for March.
Just my update for the conditions! If you can make it out there go for it- well worth it!
