I'm from New Liskeard (HWY#11 north of North Bay) which is south compared to Marathon. After I moved to Ottawa I did go to school at Lakehead so would often 'commute' back home bypassing Marathon. I worked with a guy from Marathon when I was at Bell Canada here in Ottawa - Rene Champagne. Perhaps you know him?

I do know the Champange's, small world isn't it? New Liskeard to Ottawa...wow, that's like us moving from Marathon to Ottawa. How do you like it? We're really not familiar with the area, only heard how beautiful it is. I do know you have longer golf seasons than us...we're sure going to enjoy that!!!

My family left me in New Likeard alone (to finish grade 13) when my dad retired and they moved to Ottawa. Talk about child abuse! Turns out it was the best party year of my life. Living alone, c/w a '72 Pontiac Parisienne Brougham - wow!! I left shortly after graduating - over 26 years ago!!
Having grown up in the country, I was attracted to Ottawa as you can get to the wilderness in 30 minutes. My wife and I live n/w of Ottawa in said wilderness just 1/2 hour form work.
Golfing here compared to there is so different. So many more courses - but it seems still too little time.
I haven't seen Rene for a few years. I left Bell in '96 but did run into him at a clinic a year or two ago. I believe he lives in the east end.
Welcome!

Too bad about the rain till Friday.
For my first game I would play Loch March (I think it's $75) as it is probably the best pure public course in the area. However any of the choices from the map on this site are great. You should join up with a discount golf service such as Corporate Golf, Executive Golf, or Reservation Masters to try out as many courses as you can before becoming a member anywhere.
Welcome to Ottawa!
