Will Michelle Qualify For The US Open (PGA)?
She got through the first step, now she has to get through the 36 hole sectional qualifier in New Jersey on June 5th. Her getting through the first round of qualifying is very impressive by the way.
I don't know the field for this sectional qualifier yet, but when I find out I'll post it.Last edited by fundonny; 05-16-2006 at 06:56 AM.

For someone who does not respect MW, you sure are interested.

Dan, I never ever said I didn't respect her. I have nothing against her personally at all. I just hate the hype that surrounds her (the Wie-mania), as I would a male 16 year old in the same situation. I'm an underdog type of guy.

In a previous post in another thread, I mentioned that the emergence of Michelle Wie, and other female golfers, may drive more women into the sport. If anyone has a chance to look at today's Ottawa Sun's Golf Supplement, there are 2 or 3 articles on women and women's golf. Now two of them have to do with fashion, yes their hat matches their belts and shoes, but that is a big concern for women, as my experience in being married for 21 years has taught me.
They are coming...It could be that the purpose of your life is only to serve as a warning to others.

I hope she qualifies..... then we will see what she has in her gas tank..... It would be nice to see a few people eat crow in here (including myself).... all the best to her.... You think there is Wie-mania now, wait and see what happens if she qualifies for the open and even more so if she does well! I can see Donny's Monday morning Blog now!

It wouldn't shock me to see her qualify. All depends who's in her sectional. If she does make it, I feel bad for her. US Opens are B R U T A L!

It will be interesting how she does at the next round. I am guessing it will not be on a home hawaiian course like she played a thousand times before?

There isn't much hotter than a cute girl on the golf course... well except maybe the beach volleyballers.
Michelle Wie is obviously an amazing athlete. A 16 year old beating adults at anything is impressive. I hope she makes it to the Open, and then we'll see how much better even the average mens tour player is than the women. Wie is longer than many of the male pros so maybe she'll fare better than Anika.

I voted no, just because I don't think she's capable yet, but I'd like to see her succeed, & I'm not saying its impossible. This would really shock and silence a lot of her detractors if she got into a truly elite-level men's event by following the normal channels. I think it would be the biggest story in the history of women's golf.

The word that makes me happy in all this, is "qualify".

The "Fun" part of FunDonny does not exist in this household. When I got married, I had to get rid of my personalized license plates and my Mustang. I'm actually thinking of getting "FUNDADDY" as my license plates, but I don't want people thinking I'm a pimp.

Mrs. Vantage wouldn't look even if she did. No interest. I'd never bad mouth her though, she's my girl! Puts up with a lot, but never has a day of boredom!

As long as she lays down her money like everyone else, then more power to her. That being said, I don't think she'll qualify. It's the toughest open tournament in the world to get a spot in.
When applying the Rules, you follow them line by line. You don't read between them.

I wonder if she does lay down the money, or if Omega/Nike cover it?

Shivas, the writers took one side. Either they'll be right or wrong. I don't think they're idiots for having an opinion on the subject.
