Score/stat tracking
Does anyone keep their shot stats (yes that is a redundant ?).
I would like some advice on good programs that keep fairways, greens, putts etc.
thanks in advance

I use intelligolf ... a GREAT program... can be used as stand alone desktop app, or brough out onto the course w/ a palm pilot. Keeps detailed stats, and even has GPS for mapping courses

GStat, www.gstatpro.com, is a great product. Dan also has a database of most Ottawa courses that you can input.

I've always wondered a few things.
Accuracy is just % of fairways hit.
Driving accuracy is % of fairways hit with a driver.
What is GIR? and when you count putts you don't count the ones that are off the fringe right? or when you putt out of the fairway?

GIR = green in regulation (i.e on in 1 on par 3, 2 on par 4, 3 on par 5)
putts only get counted on the greenNCGT Ryder Cup Team Green (06,07,08)

so if you hit a ball into a pod on a par 3 and then re-tee and then hit the green... how does that work into the equation? one in the missed and one in the hit??
-

no, your GIR would be missed. You are on in 3 (one shot to water, one penalty, 3 on)
However, the stat for accuracy would reflect that you got 1/2 on the green from X yards w/ Y club.NCGT Ryder Cup Team Green (06,07,08)

Do any of you find that by keeping stats you have a better idea of what you need to work on? Do the stats tell you anything different then just playing the game and reflecting on your poor shots after the game?

the stats make a world of difference...in addition to telling me where I am losing strokes, I can also use the info to set attainable goals.
ex. I never really thought much about stroke average per type of hole (par 3,4,5) but looking @ the stats last year I realized I played par 3's the orst (considerably worse) ... translation : par 3's are the only holes where i consistently have more than 8i into the hole (on average), so being that I rarel take mid to long irons into greens, I realized that i needed to spend time practicing them.NCGT Ryder Cup Team Green (06,07,08)

also depending on your level of detail, you can even determine if you conistently underread break, overread brewak, push and pull the putts etc etc...

So for those of you who keep your stats and enter them in a software, what do you keep track of while at the course and how? Do you use one score card just to brak down your game for later entry? If so what are the parameters you enter onm what lines?

I use the palm pilot, in addition to not having to re-enter all your info when you get home, hooking it up to the gps allows you to measure every shot you take and keep averages

I still don't understand how this GPS works, wouldn't you need a course map? Also, does this cost anything other than the price of the hardware? If so, how much. You should write a tutorial for the site explaining exactly how to do this so others can give it a shot... if you have time that is

Then you input into the software following the codes and information you filled into the tracking sheet. It really doesn't take much longer than writing your score on the card.It could be that the purpose of your life is only to serve as a warning to others.

If we can get a couple people using intelligolf w/ gps it would be great b/c then we can share gps coordinate databases so that we won't have to individually map as many courses.
I'll start a new thread later on today regarding all this stuff.NCGT Ryder Cup Team Green (06,07,08)

Just make sure that if you play in an event somewhere that that is allowed. The OVGA has announced that it is not allowed in their events, as has the OGA. No electronic measuring devices.
