Golf just seemed to be a much more romantic game when I was growing up. Arnie, Jack, Player, Chi Chi, Watson, Trevino, etc. They all have personality and they were all accessable. It wasn't all $5000 a ticket corporate outings and all that crap.

They made you want to be a good player because they were great players and great guys too.

That's the problem these days. Nobody has a personality. IMO, the only player that's really doing anything to impress me that way is Ernie Els because he's doing what Player did, all over the world and playing a ton of tournaments.

Anyhow, back on topic. Do I want Jack to make the cut? Hell yes. Will he? Realistically, probably not, but of all the near retired guys out there, he would be my pick to do it.

p.s. Golfbum, I prefer this pic.
Nice photo, if I had been there I would have posted mine! I once told my wife that before I die I want to go play The Old Course. Just once.
PS I want Jack to make the cut too. Who doesn't?

It ranges between 60 and 110 pounds depending on season. Which is quite a bargain compared to Pebble Beach

I paid £105 when I played there in 2003 (approx $245 Canadian at the time) plus £40 for a caddie who was worth every penny.

Coincidentally, £105 is what it costs for an annual membership at the Old Course, if you are a resident of St. Andrews. I think I'm going to retire there.

LET ME DO THE EASY WORK FOR YOU THEN.

As for posting the rates, I doubt many of the people who use this forum will jump right on a plane and go play The Old Course. But here are the rates.
You better reserve your tee time well in advance!

    Green Fees 2005/06

Green fees for the five 18 hole courses are priced according to the season: high, shoulder and low.

Tickets for 3, 7 and 14 day play can be bought on the first day of play from the starter. Three day tickets may also be bought in advance from the reservations team.

Payment can be made in cash (sterling), cheques (with guarantee card) and major credit cards (except Diners Club). To avoid speculative bookings, we regret that pre-paid green fees cannot be refunded.

He may have to shoot par or under par tomorrow if these low scores continue.

Its amazing to me that 64 year old man is able to shoot a 75 and its not like he played amazing, he could have been on and shot a par. Regardless of wether me makes the cut, the fact that he is able to shot that score is amazing to me

Do you still think Michelle Wie (who I think is an enormously talented golfer) would have bettered that score??

Not a chance. Jack's knoledge of the course, the experience of playing in it for 40 years has alot to do with how he scores at the British Open.

Watson still has a chance to make the cut. Unfortunately, it looks like Tiger's putting the hammer down and it's going to be a battle for second place.

WOW what an ovation. A deserved ovation of the century. How he made birdie is a mystery. Theres no way he could see the cup through the tears. Another familiar sight as Watson and Nicklaus congradulate each other for the last time. Congrats Jack and THANKS!

Hopefully the cut goes to +1 as it would be nice to see Watson make the cut alongside Greg Norman. Btw... I think Tom was more choked up than JAck was.

Yes, I agree quite a good piece of television. Yes, Watson looked more shook up than Jack was. What a great gesture to not only invite Luke Donald on the bridge, but the other caddies too!

Jack might have missed the cut, but god damned if he did not birdie 18!
How many times have you seen him do that? Many many times in his history making career.

I don't care if Woods wins 25 Majors, he will never be the Great Champion that Jack was.
