Hit one ball off another and into the hole??

Today we had a very unususl situation... one ball was approximately 2 feet to the side of the hole and another was still off the green.. the 2nd ball was pitched onto the green and and hit the ball that was by the hole and redirected into the hole... what is the ruling on this?

No penalty for the ball that went into the hole.

The ball that was hit gets replaced where it was before being hit, again without penalty.

from this situation, is sounds like the ball that went in the hole was already stopped (i.e. it was not the ball being chipped). does it get replaced? i'm assuming the chipped ball would be played where it lies...

I read it as the other way, i.e. the ball that was being chipped went into the hole and the ball that was at rest on the green was moved away.

Fair enough...so, what is the ruling if it happens the other way...

If it were the other way, the ball that was at rest is replaced and the ball that was chipped is played from where it comes to rest.
