OVGA Tournaments
Hey From a different Discussion. About the citizen tourney has raised a question.
How difficult is it to get into an OPVGA tournament given the scoring requirements are met? Is this a political buddy buddy system? Or is it truly open to everyone?
Thanks for the insight

It was open only to course members but now I think it’s open to the general public.
It’s hard to get in cause they usually take players that are already plying in the QGA or have an official index in tournament play. If you subscribe pay well in advance you could have a chance to get in. There is a qualifying tournament on the 16th of may but if you are asking this question you probably did not register and won’t get in.
If you go to this site http://www.golfquebec.org/en/tournois.asp you can fill out the online subscription for a qualifying rounds. PS: the OVGA is part of the Quebec league not the Ontario league.
There is a lot on info on this site.
MikeStrive for perfection, but never expect it!

You can see from the A class ladder that is posted that there are 144 players at 9 or better so if all played, there would only be a handful of additional entries available. C’est la vie. Non golf club members can join the Golf Quebec public players programme, and thereby have a shot a position in any field.
The system is now based on performance, as it should be, and therefore the attrition rate should be higher, allowing more golfers to get involved. I am unaware of favouritism being used to get a spot in a field. Those running the OVGA are hard working, reasonable people who do an outstanding job and I don't believe that the "who you know" concept applies to how they run things.
What is missing in this area is an association for those who are not members at a golf club. The Citizen tourney includes some non-member golfers, however, there are a lot of good local golfers who are not members and who would take part in golf tournaments if they were available. Getting someone to look after an organization is a problem and getting courses on which to play may be an even bigger problem.
