    Cameron Custom Shop Opinions

I'm thinking of having my Newport sent to the custom shop when the golf season ends. Of those of you who have done this, do you recommend getting the authentication done? I'm basically sending it there for some engraving, paint fill, add a sight dot, and a stamp.

Is there any benefit to having this authentication done besides proving that it is in fact real if you were to sell the putter? I'm planning on gaming this thing and don't collect putters.

What do you think? It's $65..

I wouldn't spend the money to authenticate a OTR putter. That service is basically four tour putters or putter of high value.

I figured that much. I didn't think I was going to go for it anyway...Just wanted to hear some opinions on why to do it. Makes sense though for Tour stuff.

Ya spending 65 to authenticate a putter worth over 1000 bucks makes sense. You won't recoup that in selling an OTR.

Have you sent anything there? I hear most people recommend having the shaft pulled and just sending the head?

True that. The basic spa treatment includes a new shaft. Cheaper to ship just the head.

Okay. Who would you recommend in Ottawa for doing such work? I've been away for a while and I don't want a monkey in the back shop at GT to damage it. I've worked there for multiple years so I know what can happen with clubs being worked on there.

Yes I have and like Dan said send the head only. Way cheaper to ship and if your doing a resto it includes a shaft.

I'm not doing a resto...The putter is basically brand new. All I'm having done is the above listed.

If your not doing a resto you would have to pay for a new shaft. Check what a shaft a grip costs vs shipping cost.

Yeah $45 to do a re-shaft so I will have to get a quote for shipping as well.

Just sent my putter to custom shop for basic restoration. Putter is 4 years old with an abusive owner so this is much needed.

Hey there, saw your post about the Scotty. I did the whole 9 yards and got my Scotty authenticatad, like yourself, my putter was new, in fact, if you haven't purchased the putter yet, I would recommend you to go to a registered Titleist dealer and order the putter from them and they will ship your putter directly to Scotty Cameron. You would have to create the work order first and give them the work order number to that Titleist dealer. Once the work is done, Scotty Cameron will ship the putter back to you. It does take some time, so be patient. If you are a fan of Scotty Cameron and feel that your putter is important to you (I'd assume so, since you're considering of customizing it) I would highly recommend in forking out the extra $$ to get it authenticated as well as purchasing some accessories that are only sold through them. Some items you can find on ebay. One item I would suggest is the Oil Cloth. I use mine after each round. You'll get a nice certificate of authenticity from them outlining the modifications you've done. I don't plan on selling my putter either, but if there's an odd chance or any reason for one to dispute your mods, that certificate is golden. Depending on what you plan on doing to your putter, your putter can very well be close to $1000. I think mine ended up around $750 after everything was said and done. I did it a couple years ago and to this day I think that was the best thing I could've done and regret not doing it a lot sooner. It's my favourite club in the bag and gives me all the confidence everytime I use it on the green and confidence does wonders for your putting!

One thing I did not like is that sometimes they decide on what colour is best. For example, I wanted a "red" site dot and they put "white" instead, kinda ** me off considering I spent so much on the putter. Other than that, everything else was great!

Sorry for the long winded response.

    Hope it helps!

ps. feel free to check out my putter at their website. A018628

Nice to see you taking care of my old Newport (twice or 3 times removed).

For the cost of sending it all the way out there and getting a resto done, I would have done a little customizing or stamping. At least splurge on a Custom Shop headcover or something?

(BTW - details of my own Custom Shop work in this thread http://forum.ottawagolf.com/showthre...628#post455628 )

    Sweet putter

For my putter I just wanted it new again. I think the customizing options that the SC Shop offers are pretty lame. If I could provide them with my own stamp ideas and really personalize it then I'd probably do it.

How much more can it be yours than with your name stamped on the bumpers? Could have changed the paintfill how you would like as well. Other than coming up with your own stamp, not sure how they would be able to accommodate that, I am not sure how else you could make it your own.

There are some emoticons on the right I'd use on my putter --->
