    Wrong "Score"

The Stableford point system is used for qualifying for the Intersectional team.

A player misses the putting green on a particular hole, chips the ball to the edge of the hole, walks up and taps it in with his pitching wedge for a double bogey 6 on this par 4. His marker, the club Captain, fellow competitor and sole organizer of the tournament, writes down a score of 6, and 0 points in the space below the 6.

At the completion of the round the player attests the scorecard signed by the club Captain. When the scores/points are posted, a third fellow competitor realizes that the player made a mistake on the hole in question. He goes to the Captain and reminds him that the player had holed out, without removing the flagstick. The player should have incurred a two stroke penalty for striking the flagstick, for a score of 8 instead of 6 and 0 points. The captain then says, “We won’t count the 8 because he would have gotten 0 points for the hole anyway.”

    What is the ruling?

    The given ruling is correct.

The player signed the scorecard for NO points on that hole.

Whether the player made a hole-in-one or 6 (or 8 or 400) is irrelevant.

Is this only applicable to Stableford system? If a player earned 1 or more points for that particular hole, but put down 0 point for whatever reason, the final score is still correct and won't be disqualified from the tournament?

when and why did the start the penalty for hitting the flag stick when putting.. I have watched films from tournements in the 40s and they almost never took the stick out of the hole.

The penalty for hitting an unattended flagstick with stroke from the putting green was introduced in 1968.
