A VOIP ATA is a device that converts the digital data that comes off the internet service to analogue so you can use it throughout the house. You have the option of using a softphone that runs on your computer, renting an ATA from them, or purchasing one. I purchased a used one off usedottawa when I set my service up.
I can't comment on the switchover because I never had a home phone before signing up for their service. If you go to their website, they have a very extensive forum section you can read a lot of information from.

I just signed up about 4 weeks ago.
I can handle the quirks of the system since it is costing me pennies a day compared to Bell. Not quite the same clarity in calls, but I get more features with Magicjack. I don't use it much...so all in all it is great.
911 now recognizes your home address so this is no longer a concern.

fantastic service.
I have been using one for almost a year now.
call quality is never the same twice in a row. but i can deal with it. not that big of a difference. just dont be downloading anything when you need to make a call or the quality is horrible because of the lack of bandwidth.
other then that.. voicemail caller id... for $20 a year. with unlimited north amercian long distance...
everyone should own one of these.

dude, you cannot keep your same number. they will assign you a new number. but you will still get a 613 area code.
i have the system set up on a 3 phone cordless system in the house. 1 central unit that plugs into the majicjack, and 2 other phone that connect to the central unit. havent had a problem yet

Well it says you can try it for 30 days risk free, i might pick it up set it up and not tell my wife. See if she notices a diffrence. Changing numbers would only suck for a bit
