Re-Shaft questions..
I have a set of King Cobra SS oversized irons with reg flex composite shafts. After getting a lesson the instructor said I should be swinging stiff shafts due to my club head speed.
My friend has a set of Tommy Armour 845s Silver Scot irons with stiff steel shafts.
1. Would I be able to switch shafts and put my composite shafts on his head and his steel shafts on my heads?
2. Is this something I could do with common tools I would have in my garage?
3. Is it expensive to get something like this done?
4. Would it even be worth while or should I just buy some shafts at the store and get them to install them?
5. Anyone on here do this kind of work cheap/discounted?
LOL, just looking for some options.
Thanks,Just another lefty....

You can buy FST Stiff Steel shafts at Golfworks on Industrial, 8 iron shafts for 6.40 each.
8 x $6.40 = $51.20 then 13% tax would be a total of $57.85.
There are a few club makers on the forum you could ask to do work for you, they are all pretty reasonably price and do good work.
I just bought some myself actually and they have just dropped the price by 20 cents a shaft.
Here is the link to the shafts: http://www.golfworks.com/product.asp...12_A_cn_E_2126
I am sure one of the club makers on the forum will respond.Obviously you're not a golfer.

The hosel diameter for the Cobra's is 0.370 parallel tip so the shafts from the TA 845s won't fit (unless they are shimmed) since they are 0.355 taper tip. You'd have to sand down the graphite shafts to turn them in the tapers to fit the 845s.
Both of the above are possible, but a lot of work and not something I would recommend a beginner do.
Like Break68 points out, it is much simpler to just buy a new set of shafts and have them installed in the Cobras. Not fat anymore. Need to get better at golf now!

True on the grips and ferrules.
Ferrules don't cost much and you can buy cheaper grips at Golfworks if you want or need to.Obviously you're not a golfer.

Grips and Ferrules?
Grips cost between $1.60 and $9.00 each at Golfworks and they have 82 different grips in standard size. Example: LAMKIN CROSSLINE COLOR GOLF GRIPS cost $2.15 each right now.
Ferrules costs start at 55 cents each in the .370 size.
Is that better Chief?
LOL!
Obviously you're not a golfer.

OK if you are really picky; there might be a cost for tape and solvent, argh!
Obviously you're not a golfer.

All I was trying to say Break168 is that the estimated cost of 8 x $6.40 = $51.20 then 13% tax would be a total of $57.85. could easily be doubled if the customer likes expensive fancy grips in the $6-$8 range. Heck some guys even want to put on red ferrules

So now after adding everything up.. I am wondering if it is even worth it to re-shaft these things. I bought them for $120 last summer and i will have to pay more than that just to reshaft and grip them.. I should probably just sell them and buy some that are stiff...?
I know these aren't good clubs but what do you guys think just to play for a year until I convince my wife to let me buy some new good irons.?

For $150 I figure 1 year and then sell for like $75....
Thanks guys.Just another lefty....

I would play them as they are.
There are always good deals on the forum for irons.
Be patient and I am sure you will find a great deal.Obviously you're not a golfer.

I would make an offer on the Callaway X-16 in this post below before I would play Founders Club irons, but that's just me, I used to play X-16 irons and they are amazing.
http://forum.ottawagolf.com/showthre...-Callaway-X-16
The X-16's have a True Temper Uniflex shaft that plays more like a Stiff shaft.
That is what I would recommend.Obviously you're not a golfer.

I'd be buying the 845's off buddy if they are lefty. Nice enough irons, should be cheap, easy to hit and forgiving without being monsterous, plus you'll get to see if the shafts are right or not after a fairly long trial period. If they need re-gripping then thats not a huge cost. If they dont work out you'll have 2 sets to sell to raise funds for a different set next season.
If they are not lefty, then go have a fitting session at some point to make sure you are shopping for the right equipment. It will be the biggest and best addition to your game.
From what I have read on here, I'd go see Don at Artisan Golf(?), he is supposed to be an excellent club fitter and very easy to work with.

Oh ok. I would spend the money on a fitting rather than another set of clubs really. Just makes good sense when you look at the costs of re-shafting/gripping/extras. You need to make sure what you are buying is going to be right for you.

or on 2nd thought.....try out a set of irons with stiff shafts for this year and see how you get on with them.
Check out the 735CM iron set in the lefty for sale section. Not my listing I hasten to add! But it's a frickin bargain for those clubs! imvho

These clubs have been lengthened 1/2 an inch.. I'm just under 5"10, think that would be an issue?? I'm not very tall.

Buy the clubs, take 'em into golf town, get measured and have them trim the shafts and re-grip them if needed. Job done.
You would have an awesome set of irons that will last you for quite a few seasons of golf.
