Yardage Expectations
Found this chart on the Golf Club Review.
Check and see if you're just a puty tat, or a real man (ur, ur, ur)

Interesting chart I wonder how many "testers" they actually used to come up with these numbers. It looks like I make the grade, oh! what a relief.

The chart seems pretty accurate. I generally hit a little shorter than most of the people I play against, and the chart puts me squarely in the moderate-to-average range.

I think the chart is quite accurate. It maps quite accurately to my yardages all the way along. It reflects that I hit the ball longer than average which has been my experience when playing casual rounds with a variety of players. The only areas where I don't track are where "long" maps to "Touring Pro" {Definitely not me}, "Low Handicap" {also not me}. and the very edge of "average" {admitedly me}. Obviously something is holding me back from more lofty heights and if I wasn't in a state of denial I would say it's because I can't putt worth S**t. Since that can't be it, it must just be bad bounces. Yeah, that's it, 4 or 5 bad bounces every round. Grrrr.

Lofts
I guess my only question is:
What lofts are they considering?
I have a set of clubs with a 47 degree PW and another set with a 45 degree PW.
What are standard lofts these days?

Interesting results!
Its funny how people hit different clubs.
Myself I found the chart pretty accurate.
I'm moderate with my wedges, average with my irons, long with my woods. Exactly, kinda what I always thought compared to my playing companions.
I don't know why, but I hit my driver farther then most of my buddies but from 150 yards I need a 7-iron where the same buddies are usually an 8 or 9-iron. I think it has something to do with my trajectory. I hit the ball quite high.
As for wedges I never have been able to get any distance unless I skull the ball or close down the face and de-loft.
Is anybody straight down one column for all clubs?

Hey Jim,
That's a good chart, I seem to fit in between long and very long consistently throughout the set. Swinging at about 75-80%, these are my distances:
LW>>87-95yds
SW>>95-105yds
PW>>125-140yds
9I>> 145-155yds
8I>> 155-165yds
7I>> 165-180yds
6I>> 180-190yds
5I>> 190-200yds
4I>> 200-215yds
3I>> 210-225yds
2I>> 230-245yds
3W>>250-270yds
D >>280+yds
I could probably squeeze out more distance from these, but overswinging leads to bad things usually. I've spent some time learning to not overswing, so I'm pretty comfortable with my distances. As far as I know, all my clubs are standard lofts, 60*LW, 56*SW, 49*PW , 15*3W, 7*Driver, and if you've ever played with me, I hit a very high ball flight. It's also nice to know that I've got some reserve power whenever I need it, you know, when a playing partner peeks into the bag to see what club's been pulled, really messes with them!!!
Counting the days until I can hit ball outside.......Few things in life help you find sanity in the process of losing it. Golf is one of them.

LONG BABY!!
Apart from the LW and SW, i'm pretty much straight down the "Long" column, i use 4 wedges, 64 , 60 ,56 , 52.
Depending on the conditions i can use any of them from under 100 yards, i'm trying to fight my habit of skying my wedges, so i generally take a 9 iron and do half-swings for anything in 110-130 yd. range.
SO i guess i live up to my name

It's pretty much right for everything until my long irons and woods/driver. I'm your average golfer.. but I don't mind the compliments saying I'm better than average sometimes.... I guess being taller, it might be a bit easier to hit the long shafts... I don't know.. your guess is as good as mine.

Speaking of golf club distances, not too long ago I cam across this guy's blog about that: http://www.golfclubdistancesreview.com. He talks about exactly this and gives a chart as well. He also recommends a really inexpensive e-course with picture, videos, golf instruction, etc... guaranteed to lower your score. I was skeptical as always but since I try a lot of these things out, I gave it a shot. This one really worked for me and lowered my score FAST. Anyways, take my opinion for what it's worth but you should at least check out the distance chart.

James, don't stress over yardages just get the ball in the hole and don't feel the need to put the cart girl through university and you will be back to single digit in no time.Your buddy Greg.
