Camera for Filming Golf Swing
Anyone have a recommendation for a camera that can be connected to my PC so I can film my golf swing. I have cameras that I use for family movies, but I need something that is more wide angle because when filming front on swings I only have a limited amount of space to back up the camera. I have V1 Golf software that I am using. I believe several people have highlighted some web-cams that will work well in this application.
Thanks

Check out http://forum.ottawagolf.com/showthread.php?t=55414. Webcams are ok and probably the Ps3eye cam will give you the best fps to allow for the slow motion viewing. I think the v1 has a 60 fps limit? I have the Casio EX-FS10 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EFdsT...eature=related and its just great!! You do need adequate light for all of these faster framed cameras.

How is the wide angle capability of the Casio camera you are referencing?

What do you mean wide angle? It takes the standard size videos. You can vary your field of view (FOV) with the camera position.

Some cameras have a wider field of view (FOV) than others. Because of my hitting area I can only position the camera for front on shots about 3' from where I am swinging. This means I need a camera with a wide FOV in a short distance. Does this make sense?

I don't think it has wide angle capability? However I found this http://www.digitaltoyshop.co.uk/MAGN...S10_t1668_4850. Is that what you mean?

What you have highlighted in the link is an attachment that improves the wide angle capability of a camera. Let me try asking the question a little differently. Do you use the Casio camera to film your swing face on? If so - how far back does it need to be in order for you to get your entire swing in the picture?

I use it from the back and side. usually around 6 feet or so to get a good view.

Thanks - that is what I thought. I don't have 6 feet to get a front on shot and thus I need a camera with a wider FOV in a shorter distance.

Kball:
Ever thought of placing a mirror in front of you and filming your swing by placing the camera behind you and filming the mirror image? CSwing video analysis software enables you to take that video image and reverse it back to your non-mirrored view. This procedure doubles the distance of the view of the camera so you might not need a wider Field of View.Engineered Golf - Frank Hann 3.8 GHIN

I have two Panasonic GS320 Cameras that I am using indoors - one Down Line and One front View - They are both firewire cameras as I do not want to have to transfer swings like you would have to with the Casio Exlims - I have the casio Fc100 - which is awesome for slow-mo - and i use it when I am at the range but it requires transfer of video to your computer and cannot capture live video like a firewire or DV camcorder can.
I use cswing and they have some good info on cameras here

Also, I have about 6 feet from my front view camera to where I stand and had to buy a very wide angle lens in order to get the whole view of my swing - there is some fisheye effect, however.
