Our site has been having all kinds of server issues for last few mths. with the last mth the worst. they say it is their host, why they keep them i don't know. some down times are to do maintenace, but most are just the site locking up. Yesterday i could see the site but it showed postings from hours ago, when you clicked to open a thread or post you got the following msg.
There seems to have been a problem with the Toronto Golf Nuts - Greater Toronto Area Golf Forum database.

For now they have closed the board. This is usually done when running certain maintenance scripts or updating the forum software. They are probably troubleshooting the DB errors.
I doubt they have been hacked.Life dinnae come wit gimmies so yuv got nae chance o' gitt'n any from me.

I am not the most technically minded but all i know is in the last mth or so there has been a bunch of threads started asking why so many problems...to the point that they started emailing us apologizing but saying it was their host and to try not to post threads on it.
I realize its a free membership but its frustrating when you are selling stuff and at last count there have been over 20 interruptions in one mth alone. Some were half hr outage, some were almost a full day.
I would rather pay a token amt as a member and TGN gets a good host than to deal with this...on the other hand it just means more visits to other good sites like yours"Chicks dig me, because I rarely wear underwear and when I do it's usually something unusual"

That's a php script error. Looks like a plugin or a modification they made broke a script.
The site will not connect at all for me right now. waiting for...

Aren't system upgrades wonderful? People wonder why some company's are so slow to apply new software releases.... its called proper and hopefully thorough 'testing'....

They are running version 3.5.4 of the forum software as of yesterday. Here we are running 3.8.1 There were at least 10 releases since 3.5.4 They obviously do not rush into upgrades.
Patches from the authors of VB are usually fine. Plugins are written by members of the VB community. If they don't work or cause errors you just remove them. If you mess with the code yourself, as I did for the "What's in the bag" widget, you just need to do it in a way that can be undone if you mess up.
In short, script errors in this product should not cause more than momentary problems. Just remove what you did and try again. It also helps to do it at 5:00 am.Life dinnae come wit gimmies so yuv got nae chance o' gitt'n any from me.

I don't know the admin guys for our site real well, but i do casually. After a few posts on the various problems one nice guy emailed me and asked for patience that they were doing all they could.
I have always questioned if they were doing all they could software wise. I visit each day you guys and golfwrx and puttertalk along with my financial sites etc...and not one single problem. Ever? I think td cda trust once or twice had issues but momentarily.
I cannot think of one single time on ottawa golf forum i had a problem and in the last couple mths it has been a nightmare over there.
I do all my updates on software regularly ie. firefox i do automatically and it sounds like you see that they may not be doing the updates necessary to fix stuff.
I don't get it?...then again it allows me more time to read about you guys and your frustration waiting for

Oh, we have our problems too. OG is my full time job. I believe the TGN folks have day jobs so things will take longer to get fixed.
This site is run on my own server which is hosted at an ISP. I do not depend on them for server configuration or maintenace. If there are problems I have to fix it, but I don't depend on them to fix it for me. There is both good and bad in that.
I do keep up on updates since many are security patches to keep hackers and spammers off. When a vulnerability pops up they fix it fast. A I said there have been many such patches. Not so long ago we had a major spambot problem. We also had a hacker send disgusting porn through pms by hacking into accounts with weak passwords (password and username were the same). Both of these vulnerabilities were fixed with patches from VB. Both were after 3.6 so TGN is vulnerable to those if the spam bots get hold of thier URL.Life dinnae come wit gimmies so yuv got nae chance o' gitt'n any from me.
