Refinishing Irons
After seeing Brianson's ad with those sweet gunmetal type 690CB's I was think of looking into doing something like this. I lik my irons an ddon't want to giv ethem up but like everyone you get bored of the same sticks. Anyone know of where you could get this treatment done?

Golfworks will refinish and the Iron Factory does as well but having done this in the past with a set of wedges I really liked, my advice is to just buy new heads.
The actual cost per head to refinish is the same as buying new. In some cases even more. So unless you have sentimental attachment to the heads or they are collectors, just get a set of shiny new toys. Not fat anymore. Need to get better at golf now!

Thing is I don't want to rechrome them I was thinking of doing a black ox/gunmetal type finish. I saw a set that were raw and they looked sweet as well but I would worry about the wear since they would be so soft and rusty

Found this: http://www.caswellcanada.ca/store/ow...73&idCategory=
Looks like you can do it yourself. Would be interesting to see how that would turn out. I woul dneed to remove the chrome and that could get complicated as well. Anyone ever try this out themselves?

Did you see the irons in Brianson's av Mr. Vincent? Did you follow the link to the ebay auction? I think I could do it myself. I might need to borrow that big turkey deep-fryer of yours, I think if I cooked my 704s in there long enough they'd get pretty black.

I saw the avatar but missed the ebay link.
You can borrow the deep fryer but you'll have to be clean shaven. You don't want anything dipping into the oil.Not fat anymore. Need to get better at golf now!

oh man, maybe I could have black-oxided my moustache!
In all seriousness, the product dbleber has above is $55 for a gallon that will do 600 sqare feet. I think my irons would look pretty sweet with that black finish. I might test it out on the 3 iron & see how it goes.Andrew

But you'd have strip the chrome first, which is pretty nasty to do.

I bet this local company could remove the chrome and then you could apply the Black Oxide yourself. Interesting......

Just a note.......
Black Oxide works on steel or iron parts only and will not blacken Stainless Steel.
