Does anyone here play the Hunt Club regularly?
I have looked sadly at the Hunt each and every time I've passed it on Hunt Club (two or four lanes!) since I started playing golf - or at least since I started playing golf and recognized what a private course was all about. :-P
A few years ago I was lucky enough to get invited to play the Royal Ottawa and was not as impressed as I might have thought I'd be (though some of their greens are killers!) but I was glad to have the opportunity to play that course. Hunt Club is a course I've visited (watched the LPGA there a long time ago) and looks like it could be a nice challenge - but I have no idea how to get in. None of my personal, professional or political contacts are members there...
If I wanted to get to play a round there this year, any tips as to how I might go at it?! Any of you members there? ;-)
Thanks!
Mike

My wife & me visited via a Charity event three summers ago. Expensive, at $225 each but we had gift arrival-bags, range, bbq on arival, cart, 5 course meal with unlimited wines. Our door-prizes were both one-night-stay at the Chateau Laurier. One of the guys we sat with got a flight to Vancouver for two as his draw prize!
I think we came out ahead. Oh yeah, the course was a pleasure.......

Played Last October
Our president bought a round (foursome) at a charity function, can't recall the exact price but believe it was around $500. The round had to be used that year, and "Monday" only (watch the fine print on anything up for bid!). :dissappro
Being late in the season there were 3 provisional greens, one just 90 yards! Aside from that a beautiful course in great condition and impossible to lose a ball. The greenside area on a number of holes would funnel your shots to the middle of the green - provided you made it past the numerous bunkers.
Didn't think it was as tough as Eagle Creek or Loch March, the courses I usually play, but maybe that was just the absence of water hazards. Rating/slope is comparable to Eagle Creek.
Ended up shooting 98 from the blue tees , a good round for me (my first year golfing after a layoff of 30 years). FC had his best round of the year, an 87. We usually shoot in the mid 90's or lower 100's.
Biggest thrill was seeing the Prime Minister's limo and RCMP escort pull up when we were on the range! I think that he was a couple of holes ahead or behind but never did see him on the course.
Only sour note was that we couldn't get a drink, or even coffee at the turn as we weren't members. :mad
I'd do it again given the chance and will keep any eye out at charity events for the same opportunity. Did I tell you that I have a great boss!

Just checked the Vests we got in our arival package. It was put on by the Rotary Club. We did get a follow-up invite for last year but we're probably off the short list after passing on that one.

I'm a member at the Hunt, been there since 2000. Used to do what a lot of people on this board do, play at different courses (Eagle, Loch March, Emerald, Meadows etc.) but I don't miss the variety or driving time at all. The Hunt has 27 holes which does provide some variety and I play 5-7 times elsewhere during the season for tournaments, travel and doing a "home and home" with members at other private clubs.
It's great playing there. Nice course, good practice facilities, normally 4 hour rounds, the pro and his staff are excellent, food is pretty good and you can't beat the location being right in town. If your circumstances allow you the opportunity to join a private club like the Hunt I highly recommend it.
Tanglegrip, you must have played the West 9 last October. We had 3 greens that were re-built last year. Not because they were in bad shape, but either to change the slope or the characteristic of the hole. According to some of the long-time members, last year the course was in the best shape in recent memory. Too bad about the beverages, they don't take cash, you have to charge to an account. Works out great for guests, my buddies tell me beer and food taste a lot better charged to my account . Mr Chretien is out there regularly, one day last summer he and Gretzky were on the course the same day. There was a lot more buzz about #99.
mmason31, let me think about your request. As you can imagine, it's a bit odd bringing a complete stranger and guests are my responsibility. I'm not worried about you being a serial killer. Much worse than that, I'm worried about you shooting 130, taking 5 practice swings every shot, cursing at the marshall, wearing a tank top and jeans. Would do it later in the season anyways, the course is in optimal shape for the member/guest which is mid-July.

I don't just drive by it everyday my window over looks the huntclub.. I'm usually good for a score in the 80's..if not.. at least wave on your way by

Bid at charity for Hunt Club round
mmason31
According to my boss the event was a Kiwanis auction and he bid around $400. Worth it as far as I'm concerned. Think that I'll go this year and outbid him, after all it is for charity.

No disrespect meant to the club or staff about not being able to get a beverage. My understanding is that the staff took the time to advise a FC that all beverages were charged to accounts, they were not set-up to take cash.
For the record, none of us were close to the 90 yard provisional green, proving once again that accuracy is more important than distance. Course and conditions were superb.
