That is the compression I am talking about. It is massing all similar colour regions into one blotch. It's really bad when they pan along a fairway and the blotches jump along.

Dan, to fix that I changed my cable box picture format option to 'fixed' from 'pass-through'. I am not sure if that will help you but it sure helped my reception. Then again, I am pretty sure my plasma isn't quite setup properly and I plan on having someone come in and look at how I have it wired and programmed at some point.

    Hmmm I have
    fixed
    Upconvert 1
    Upconvert 2
    Auto DVI

I have it on fixed. European Tour is on now and the mpg effect is the same so I just tried them all. The others seem to make no difference. I don't think it's my setup.

Just thought it was worth a try... it seems to have worked for me but then again, I am pretty sure I do not have it setup properly. I bought a home theatre with the TV and I never managed to get it working so I gave it to my son to put on his TV in the rec room

Normally that would give you worse results. Like I said earlier the scaler in the SA cable boxes is not the best and most TVs do a better job of scaling.

If your TV isn't set up right then it may contribute to the problem.

Auto DVI should be the one you are using. It's the same as passthru. The way to check is that the TV should report that it's receiving a 480i signal on TGC, 1080i on most HD channels. It should say 720p for FOX-HD and PBS-HD.

Thanks I will. Unfortunately That does not do anything to improve TGC reception.

I have Bell with the 6100HD rcvr on a Sharp Aquos LCD.

The picture seems fine most of the time. Before I had the 6100 I was using a 4100 on this TV and the picture quality at times on TGC was poor. Mind you those were tournaments being broadcast from Asia and Africa so that would be part of the problem.

I was watching breifly yesterday and the picture seemed fine except I was seeing too much of Tiger Woods

My opinions are my own, I do not follow others.

Passthru will send the signal as is what received directly to the TV. The possible formats are:

    480i: all SD channels
    720p: FOX-HD and PBS-HD
1080i: All other HD channels. The caveat to this is I'm not sure if the canadian HD channels re-encode the 720p broadcasts to 1080i when they are sim-subbing.

The reason you want to use passthru is that the Rogers boxes are not very good at scaling the signals (changing the formats/resolution).

Ahhhh... golf in HD is back.

I just checked channel 13 on Rogers where the same broadcast is available in SD. It's just as bad as TGC. I am starting to think it's the network feed to the SD providers.
