Sick of Tiger
Is anyone else sick of seeing Tiger already? It's his first event and he's all they talk about on the Golf Channel! "2 Weeks of Tiger". I have the utmost respect for him and it would be a dream to play a round of golf with him, I'd settle for following him while he golfs, but come on. Enough already. There must be other stories.
Oh well, just had to vent.

LOL I would say you have about 14 more tournaments to put up with them talking about him constantly and 20 or so with the occasional mention of his greatness when he isn't playing

Can you blame Tiger? Were you sick of Gretzky? Are you sick of Brady?

I wasn't trying to bash him. I think he's fantastic. Just wish they could find more to talk about than Tiger. He's the best and will be the best ever one day. I guess with golf it is so easy for the networks to focus on one person. A lot harder to do in football and hockey. I wish I had a sixteenth of his game.

I don't have a problem with Tiger the player. He does things with a golf ball that I couldn't do in my wildest dreams. When he plays, I can only sit and watch in awe. Whether he has his "A" game or his so-called "C" game, 99 times out of 100 he finds a way to close the deal.
Where I do have the problem is with Tiger the media and PR circus. The majority of this is not controlled by him, but by those in orbit around him. Sure, he has helped take the game, and the business of golf to new levels not seen before, but golf is not a one man sport. There are many other personalities that deserve a lot more "face time" than they currently get. When applying the Rules, you follow them line by line. You don't read between them.

Fair enough, my apologies for interpreting your post as a bash job.
I believe that the media (print, radio and television), in general, does a terrible job of providing balance in the vast majority of their content. But I don't lay the blame at the feet of the people or issues that receive the lion's share of the coverage (and I don't mean to imply that you are doing this jsttaylor).
Just once I'd like to see someone start a post about the lack of symmetry in the on-air coverage of a given golf tournament as opposed to blaming Tiger for being the subject of the broadcaster's attention, like it is somehow his fault.

I agree Rich, I watched the telecast today and I did not see one shot made by the actual leader, it was mostly lefty, tiger and Rory's antics for a while

The thing I find most amusing about the media is their attempts to build some type of "Nicklaus/Palmer/Watson" rivalry, but Tiger a) won't buy into it, and b) keeps putting the hammer down and separating himself further from the competition.
It's almost comical sometimes the way the look for anything to stir the pot. When applying the Rules, you follow them line by line. You don't read between them.

Isn't that the wonderful thing about a democratic society?
But seriously, ever since Bobby Clampett came out of college way back when, the media have been searching for the "Next Nicklaus". If Tiger had never materialized, it would probably have been Mickelson, or Els, or someone else. Media and corporations will hitch their wagon to any passing star, and ride the hell out of it till it burns out. Tiger just happens to be giving a longer ride than most. The glue factory is loaded with worn out thoroughbreds that they have ridden into the ground before he came along. And there'll be plenty more after they're done with him...When applying the Rules, you follow them line by line. You don't read between them.

maybe that goes for you or me...but what tiger has done for this game is unmatched. Not only for his play but the things he does off the course that you just dont see from other players, or even other sport figures. Tiger could sit at home for the rest of his life, never having to pick up a club again...but instead you see him teaching Underpriveledge kids. Spending millons builing schools, Would rather turn on and hear them talking about tiger, than hearing many of the bad things that go on in sports these days...Just be greatful you are getting to see him play because you might not see a better golfer/ person/ rolemodel in our day then tiger woods.
