My comment was more of a commentary on my style of play vs the advice given.
I am not known for playing "smart golf" too often.Last edited by jvincent; 01-20-2007 at 04:13 PM. Reason: typo

I like it and it does make sense. I am sure following this method that my scores would come down as I usually have 5-7 shots per hole that I take, that I should not, and add to my total. It will, however make the game a little more boring.

ah, I see. my best round in the past 5 years was 90 from the blue tees. so I am starting from "bogey" golf, and conservatively working my way down. For me, this will mean a real emphasis on keeping the ball in the fairway, always playing for the sure bogey, allowing myself a putt at par.

I'm in that "funny zone" of golf, a mid-single digit handicapper (7.8) right now.
I am capable of hitting pretty much any shot I want, sometimes with more consistency than others, but generally pretty solid.
If I wanted to play safe, aka boring, golf I could probably get it lower, but I wouldn't have as much fun playing. Given that I'm not making a living playing, I'd rather have fun.

Vive la difference! I am a relatively boring person, and for me, fun is a lower score. I get a real thrill out of a bogey on the single-digit handicap holes.
But I understand and appreciate your point of view. I have really enjoyed, and learned from many of your posts.

Don't get me wrong, I prefer the birdie to the bogie, but if I don't play my style, I tend to get dis-interested and make more mental mistakes than when I am going for it.
I will even lay-up every now and then too.
Thanks for compliment too, BTW.
