Preferred Lie???
What exactly is the rule on this. How far can you move your ball if its on the fairway, woods etc..?

You aren't supposed to move your ball. You only play preferred lies if the golf course implements that rule due to adverse course conditons. And usually it only applies to balls in the fairway and fringe around the greens. Everything else is play it as it lies.

Thanks. Played with someone last week and said you could move the ball within two club lengths.

Usually when the course is saturated courses (during tournaments or events only) will implement lift, clean and place. And usually its within a 6-12" radius of where you ball lays but no nearer the hole. Balls tend to plug in these conditions and its rather tough to hit your ball when there is only a quarter of it showing.
