Hi Rob
I am far from a computer expert, I don't think you can delete the internet Explorer. I think it is part of the intergrated package of software required to run Windows. I could be wrong though. Like you I could not find a way to delete it.
Why not just let it be, use your other browser program? I have a friend who does that. He does use Explorer for certain internet uses though, so that is why he will not delete it. If it could be deleted he would know how. I will ask him.
RickMy opinions are my own, I do not follow others.

Nope, not unless you want to switch to Linux
Easier to use, no viruses, no trouble, big bubble, never even have to reboot if you don't want to.
Deleting exploder is deleting some of your shell files, as in the windows shell that runs the GUI.
Expert opinion.[COLOR=DarkRed]"Friends don't let friends use Internet Explorer"

This is the problem.
I clear my history.
YET when i type www.(insert letter here)
say www.d (www.dell comes up)
www.e (something eles comes up)
Not for all of them it's just 4 letters it's nothing offensive but I dont' want it showing up at my work computer. like www.g (you guessed it golf resoruce comes up)
This is EVEN AFTER I have cleared everything. I"m so mad right now because I need this stuff gone. Try it on yours.
Clear everything so it's clean sweeped.
Than type in www.(inseret letters 1 at at time) about 4-5 will work and bring up the most bizzare stuff. I gotta get rid of it !
Thanks,
Rob

OK, quick answer, turn off history altogether, thats what I do.
Now, is it win98 or winxp, so I can give a more precise answer how to clear it.[COLOR=DarkRed]"Friends don't let friends use Internet Explorer"

Try Internet Options, Advanced tab, make sure that in-line auto complete is unchecked

I suggest leaving it on your machine as a back up. I use FireFox exclusively but a couple of months ago my firefox program corupted and I was able to use Internet Explorer and reload firefox. Never hurts to have a back up.

Well it does not come up that way on my wife's PC with XP and Exploder, but I turned off in-line auto complete as mentioned above. That is the prescribed fix I am sure.

You could run Ad Aware a few times and it will clean URLSearchHooks too, they get infested in the windows registry

How could only 3 G0Ddarn urls be remembered. Deletes everything except those. It's driving me nuts... Should of used netscape! argh

Are those url's in any of the Internet zones (security tab) as exceptions (Accepted sites).
I guess you could search the registry for those specific ones and delete the values, but that may be rather daunting if you are not familiar with registry editing. Clear all cookies and caches of course.[COLOR=DarkRed]"Friends don't let friends use Internet Explorer"

Should have used Mozilla Firefox really, Netscape is just branding on top of Mozilla.

Hey DH,
I feel your pain...heres the scoop... Microsoft in its all its glory decided that internet explorer will be the main windows program.... you cant delete it as mentioned above because it is the same program you use to view your file system (test it out u'll see what i mean... go to 'My Computer' and where it shows the drive location type in a website... it'll load...
and the autocomplete thing Mr Bill gates thought it would be a great idea for explorer to 'LEARN' these websites will always autocomplete because these are the sites you view most often. Even with history turned off and all that these will be saved and remembered... the best way to solve this problem is go to DOS.. and type in....
Format C:\
then load linux sorry DHScott - Golf...Fail.

Try this
Clearing Internet Explorer's AutoComplete Entries
Added 2/21/00
If you want to clear all the entries that show up from past searches, web entries etc.- Start IE
- Go to Tools / Internet Options / Content / AutoComplete
- Click on the Clear Forms button
- If you want to disable this in the future, uncheck any of the boxes that apply

LOL, fun eh? This is almost like a challenge, hehehehe.
Well how about:
Deleting the INDEX.DAT file (Windows2000, XP)
The INDEX.DAT file keeps a record of all the web sites you have visited.
Normally you can't simply delete this file since it is protected by the operating system.
However, there is a way:- Close all running applications
- Open a command window (CMD.EXE)
- Go to to C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5 (where username is the replaced by your current login name)
- Start the Task Manager (Ctrl-Shift-Esc)
- Click on the Processes tab
- Select EXPLORER.EXE and click on End Process
- The screen will be blank except for the command window
- Delete the INDEX.DAT file
- Go back to the Task Manager
- Do File / Run / Explorer and the desktop will be back
