Depends how you define elite. They havent won lately and were not competitive in recent majors. They are going for easy cash from an unethical and corrupt source. Says a lot about the kind of people they truly are.

Just another one cut from the same cloth. I wonder in the case of Koepka and Dechambeau whether there is drug testing on the LIV tour?

The good news is they seem to be attracting most of the players I dislike.
I got a fever. And the only prescription is more golf equipment.

    Eamon Lynch - Golfweek

There is a trend apparent among the players going to LIV Golf, beyond the obvious thirst for money. In almost every case, their long-term ability to consistently compete against the world’s best on the PGA Tour is questionable, be it on the basis of physical longevity (Koepka, DeChambeau), decrepitude (Mickelson, Westwood, Poulter), diminishing skill (McDowell, Kaymer) or apathy (Johnson, who’d rather be fishing). They are stars emeritus, their best rendered roadkill some miles back by younger, healthier and more powerful competition. Any suggestion that he belongs among their ranks will wound a prideful man like Koepka, but it’s true.

Competitive relevancy is one of the most predictable aspects of this story, along with nominally reputable media galloping to the gate with thinly-sourced rumors, witlessly assisting the Saudis in creating a narrative that momentum has turned inexorably their way.

Where was the narrative over the past few years as Saudi money flowed into sports ? The Saudi dictators have been killing their own citizens for decades and suddenly golf writers take umbrage, such is life and we move on to the next set of headlines.

Fortunately we live in a democracy and can choose to support the decision of golfers to do what they want, or not. But as to your comment, I found this in 2 seconds of research, I am sure it isn't the only commentary about the first golf tournament in Saudi Arabia.

Exactly! There have been tournaments played in Saudi Arabia, China and numerous other countries in the world with dubious human rights records for over a decade and nobody cared - as long as the "proper" deference was made to the existing tours. But start up a rival tour and everyone who has a vested interest in keeping things the way they are cries foul. What hypocrisy!!

China has had both Summer and Winter Olympics recently, which took "sports-washing" to the highest level possible. Where was the outrage from sports organizations when that happened?
