    Norway Bay Gc

According to an article on the Flagstick site, the Norway Bay golf course is reopening this month. Tried to paste a link to the article but it wouldn't work.

On today’s Norway Bay golf course, it seems that 8 of the 9 holes remain as Stanley Thompson drew them up on his blueprint from 1938. The blueprint has the letterhead of Thompson, Jones & Company (a 1930s partnership between Stanley Thompson and Robert Trent Jones, Sr). But although the firm Thompson, Jones & Co. formally existed until1940, the two architects did not actively collaborate on the same site after 1934, when Jones refused to join Thompson in Brazil for design work there early in 1935. (Jones was using the more famous Thompson name to get his own business going in the United States.). So Norway Bay is all Thompson. A Thompson hole was eliminated to make room for the present clubhouse and parking lot (replaced by the dog-leg par-4 finishing hole today). The remaining eight holes have been renumbered at least three times since 1938 (but not changed), as the clubhouse moved from the north end of the course to the middle of the course, and then to the south end of the course where it is now.

Just realized my directions were upside down: the first clubhouse was at the south end of the course; the next one was in the middle of the course; today's clubhouse is at the north end.

Any update on this? I did see in Flagstick in May 2019 that it was closing permanently. Do you know if they did, in fact, reopen?

I can conrifm they reopened, but I haven't been to the course in many years. I was a member there in the 1990s. https://www.astraestates.com/golf

They've re-opened but unfortunately none of the greens are ready yet, all the greens are temporaries at the moment. It'll be another month anyway before they're ready.
