Good news bad news
Just when you thought everyone would be happy
Be aware that some courses are not allowing 24 hour cancellations anymore.
I have been told by one course that the government has mandated all green fees to
be paid up front on booking. You will only be given a raincheck for inclimate
weather
With booking sheets filling up like last year the chances of using a raincheck will
be slim to none.
Make no mistake the course owners are out for you money big time
This is no way to treat their loyal patronsDoes the 2nd hole-n-one come easier ?

It makes no sense whatsoever . Paying fees at the golf course is the same as paying your for grocery at Costco or Walmart. In fact the courses that I have played so far during covid have very strict setup. The check-in person is behind windows/plexiglass/partitions and they all use intercom/walkie-talkies. If a course won't allow at least 24hr cancellation, I simply will not play there. We have plenty of courses within 1hrs of Ottawa that would like to take my business.

I don't see an issue with this and I do not see it as greedy. Many services, such as hotels require a minimum notice period. You should know within 36-48 hours if you are going to play or not. Courses cannot afford last minute cancellations.

Some times things come up and a person has no choice but to cancel a tee time. Cancelling as early as possible is a common courtesy and will allow the course to fill that time with another group. I think if a cancellation is done prior to 24 hours then there should not be a charge as that time can get filled. within 24 hrs then a charge can be levied at the discretion of the course. Unfortunately some unscrupulous people are booking multiple times at multiple courses and then choosing the best time. This is unfair as tee times are at a premium during the pandemic and some people are taking advantage. These are the people who should be charged a cancellation fee..
Just my 2.5 cents.

Can’t see this being a common occurrence.

I think people have missed the point here. THERE IS NO CANCELLATION OF CHARGES---IT IS RAINCHECK ONLY. I won't beleaguer the point---I am happy Mike--all I am saying is beware when you pre book.

Yes... And I think going forward you're going to see more courses require payment before play. People cancel all the time because they're fair weather golfers or they book a foursome because they don't want strangers playing with them leaving one or two spots open where they could have received revenue. It is a business.

I agree with XTOUR, it is lost revenue for the course, most likely during prime playing time at the course. I also would say I agree with getting a refund if the spot is filled up again by the course, but should be charged if you are a 4some no show at the course...like xtour said-some people book for 4 people, because they only want to play as a twosome and not with people they don't know, which is again lost revenue for the course.
