Grass in rough
My ball comes to rest in the first cut of rough, close to the jungle rough. My normal process would be to walk behind the ball to help me identify a target to use when I address the ball. In this case the act of walking behind the ball may flatten some of the long grass behind the ball, thus removing it from interfering with my swing. Is this legal? (the rough is not marked as a hazard).

If the grass you flatten is in the area of your intended line of swing, then you have breached rule 13-2.

If you improve your lie, stance or area of your intended swing, or the line from your ball to the hole, then you are subject to a penalty.
13-2 Ball Played as it Lies.
If in doing your routine, you don't touch anything that would change the conditions of the shot as you found it, then you don't incur a penalty.spidey
