What's your favourite layout in the region?

No necessarily in terms of what is the most beautiful or the most manicured. I have a love/fascination for fun, interesting layouts and course architecture and I'm curious to see what courses you enjoy playing and why.

I'll start! I play mostly at the west side of Ottawa and I've enjoyed playing Stittsville (former Glen Mar) for a few reasons. Because I'm a longish hitter, I play there without a driver and because it's a shorter course, I find I'm forced to be more creative with my tee shots to allow a certain approach shot.

My favourite hole is #4 because of how there are a few different options off the tee and depending on which one you take it leaves an easy or tricky second shot. If you bail out left, you have a longer second shot into a narrow green with a steep slope on the left and a bunker on the right. If you get more aggressive off the tee (and successfully execute the shot) you'll be rewarded by a much easier second shot but still tricky because now your on a downhill slope trying to hit that narrow green.

There are several holes out there that make you think and every time I play there I like to try a different way to play the hole.

In terms of layout, leaving condition aside I personally like Upper Canada. Awesome par 3’s of varying length. Ten from the back tees is as good a par four as you’ll play into the wind. Also some short par 4’s that you can take aggressive lines on. Great mix of risk reward. Again, I’ve played nicer courses in the region and many that are much nicer overall, but Upper Canada is every bit as strong a layout as any course in the region

Agree 100% with you. One of our favs and get out there 4-5 times a year. Always a treat to play and staff are some of the nicest folks anywhere. Its quite a challenging course especially the back 9 where i usually scrap my game.lol Come on spring!!!

I've seen Upper Canada brought up quite a bit as a great course. Unfortunately I've never had the chance to get down to play it but I might make an attempt this summer. The scruffier, more interesting courses are my favourite types to play.

It’s a good course overall, mainly due to the layout. The greens are usually decent. Not lightning fast but good. You don’t go for the conditions but the layout is very good
