Thanks Jumbo
Had the pleasure to play a round at Pineview with a visitor from New Zealand.
The lads name is "Jumbo"...and no, that's not his size.
We were both playing singles on Monday and got put together starting on the 10th hole.
This is where the fun began!
I asked Jumbo if his golf game was okay.
He humbly stated "...it's okay".
He proceeded to drive the ball onto the green...some 347 yards away (from the Blues). Eagle
Each of his next drives were in excess of 320 yards...accurate as sharp shooter.
On the 17th hole, he landed the ball on the green side bunker....350 yards.
On the second hole, the Marshals asked if the group ahead of us were slowing us down. We said we were just catching up to them.
They ask why were waiting to tee off since the group was on the green.
I explained my partners ability which they were sceptical.
They said it was okay to tee off.
So, Jumbo let's go a bomb that comes close to the group...some 385 yards away.
The Marshals jaws drop.
Jumbo stated that he had once played the Asian tours but had lost his card several years ago.
The Marshals began to follow.
Needless to say, the only other clubs he pulled out that day were wedge & putter.
His wedge game was smooth.
The ball would go high and then slowly brake to hole.
I don't know how much under he played that day but it had to be real low. It was either birdie or eagle on almost every hole.
Given his skills, his personality was not pretentious...but very friendly and humble.
I have to say, it was fun watching him play.
Thanks Jumbo

I'm curious - what was his name? Not too many guys from New Zealand go play the asian tour, so there is a chance he may be well known back in New Zealand?

Jumbo Ozaki is 70 years old, while I know he was considered long in his day I doubt he is hitting 300 + yard bombs nowadays

I think cleek might be right in assuming it was Kun Jumbo Kim. I couldn't find a pic of him, so I can't verify.
The information I could find put him at the right level of golf
