    Local Course Conditions

    Hello Everyone,

How are local courses coping with all the rain we've been receiving? Which ones are fine and which ones are waterlogged?

    Thanks
    John

I got an email yesterday to say the eQuinelle had closed down for the day completely...even the Grill at the clubhouse (and today too, apparently). Iroquois along the seaway had the wettest course conditions I'd ever seen/experienced about 10 days ago, and it's gotta be way worse now. This has to be hitting a lot of them pretty hard. Perhaps something higher up and hilly like Loch March is faring better, but their mosquitoes are probably out in force.

Emerald Links was playing nice last weekend (8 days ago)...

I would be amazed if Loch March isn't under water on several holes.

We (Rideauview) are closed again today while our temporary lakes drain.
Not fat anymore. Need to get better at golf now!

Renfrew Golf Club is in great shape, hasn't closed, and has allowed carts everywhere all season. It drains extremely well.

Meadows was closed yesterday. Open as far as I know today but it will be wet I am sure. As mentioned, equinelle has been closed for 2 days. Playing it Thursday and will report back.
I got a fever. And the only prescription is more golf equipment.

This is crazy. I have been playing golf for almost 20 years now and can't remember when courses had to close to allow time for draining.

The odd day perhaps but this is the 4th or 5th time this year Meadows and eQuinelle have closed. Contrast to last year when their ponds were virtually empty with minimal rain. ~80mm yesterday. That's more than a normal month of rain for July

Metcalfe has also been closed 4 or 5 times this year, as has Smiths Falls. They might open the 18-hole course tomorrow, but probably not the 9-hole course.

50cm one day snowfalls, 80mm one day rainfalls, just incredibly extreme weather.

I played Metcalfe on Saturday, not a wet spot so I'm surprised that they closed for a few times already. Compared to a few other courses that I have played in the region, Metcalfe seems to be really dry.

I can't imagine Glenmar, Pineview, Champlain would be opened today. These are some of the wettest courses this season that I have played so far.

I played Montebello three times this year already and all three were right after the rain. Even then the course drains very well with very few puddles. The green is a bit inconsistent though perhaps because it was wet then.

Never have I witnessed a course drain as well as Nation.
We played there earlier in the season - most courses in and around Ottawa were closed due to excessive rain - buddy received an email from Nation "We're open with no cart restrictions" - wth?

So we ventured out and managed to tee off on #3 (down hill par 4) before a 15 minute insane downpour decided to show up.

There was literally 3 inches of water on the green as we waited for the system to move on...after putting the umbrellas away and venturing out of the tree cover to hit our approach shots (2-3 minutes) we look down at the green and there is no water.

Hit our approach shots, no splash; Hit our putts, no water trail (glad I putted 2nd lol)
Look back up the fairway and the water is gushing down the middle, making a sharp left turn about 10 yards before the green into a drain.

Move on to Hole #4, i swear if you just joined us you would never believe us when we told you it just poured rain hard for 15 minutes

Kudos to them - nice track in great shape that drains like a champ.

played Pakenham over the weekend , my eval ( Island / Lake )

fairways 4/5, far better than the recent past couple of years.
greens 4/5, very nice shape overall.
tee boxes 2/5, pretty rough, many uneven, need work
traps 1/ 5 , dire need of sand, I suspect all the rain this year has taken it's toll. Need a major overhaul.

new management team is making a difference. 4 hour round on a Sunday, would go back.

I had not played Meadows in quite a long time and really enjoyed my round yesterday even if the course was very wet. Great holes and interresting layout. Gonna get out there more often.

Marc, you should have seen it in July! I played Thurs eve and it was the driest I have seen it all summer.

Some of the members told me it was in fantastic shape especially the greens. I was impressed even in the wet weather we had yesterday.

yep, the greens on Thurs were the best I have seen them all year. Finally rolling at a decent speed out there thanks to a new green mower apparently.

I played Greensmere's Legacy course this afternoon. It was quite saturated still from the latest rain, and noticably rough around the edges in comparison to past years' conditions when I've played here. Enjoyable otherwise. There was one thing that I'd question, there was no fairway mix to fill divots at the tee boxes; just a very few random bottles with mix left at a few tees. Perhaps they don't want you to repair marks... it was the same on fairways as well, as it appeared that few people repair divots. One has to wonder why on such a nice course they don't repair them as part of regular maintenance.
