How to find local strokeplay events?

I'm new to the region and keen to compete in local events - I enjoy competing and it is a good way to see some different courses.

My preference is for strokeplay type events rather than team scrambles (which most of the links on this page are)... I have two questions, 1) do local courses host events or open tournaments on a regular basis? and 2) how can I find out about these?

I'm not talking super high profile events, but back home where I came from most courses would have an annual "Open" tournament where players from other clubs can come play.

Appreciate any links or pointers about where I can start looking? My last resort is to go to each clubs homepage and do some searching, but I'm sure there must be some other options.

OVGA is the local amateur body that puts on most of the top flight events. Downside there is that most of their tournaments are during the week which isn't ideal for many.

I know that Club EG is hosting a 3-day stroke play tournament (cut after 2 rounds) that is flighted as well.

A quick google search should take you to both of those.

As for "open" tournaments at local clubs there doesn't seem to be as many of those, or at least they aren't advertised very well.

Just to follow up on what Travis said, OVGA is definitely the place to look.

One other thing to note, I think most (all ?) of the OVGA tournaments require you to be a Golf Canada member. If you aren't a member at a club you can get a membership through the public player program.
