Is Stonebridge Living On Borrowed Time
The last Annual General Meeting of the Stonebridge Community Association on April 6th, a friend mentioned Mattamy will be building homes on the golf course. Can anyone confirm this unfortunate (not surprised) event?
Thanks

They were probably referring to the development on the site of the pink house, behind the 6th hole. Presentation at the link below.

houses sure don't affect the quality of the course or the way I golf so the value doesn't change a penny for me...

Honestly I can't see the golf course going anywhere.

The rumour of Monarch building houses on the golf course is a persistent one and people are like Chicken Little and think the sky is falling. The short list of obstacles that Monarch would face if they wanted to build on the golf course is:
- Getting the zoning changed to allow houses to be built on the golf course.
- The gigantic lawsuit from the people who paid $50K and higher premiums for golf course lots.
In short, it's not going to happen. Not fat anymore. Need to get better at golf now!

Rumors seem to abound around this course. Remember when lots of people were saying it was going to become a ClubLink course

I missed the acquisition by Mattamy. Either way, it doesn't change anything.
Other than the driving range, no houses have been built on the course itself. Again, the first hurdle there will be zoning. Not fat anymore. Need to get better at golf now!

I foresee Stonebridge ending up like eQuinelle in terms of the owner/builders wanting to maximize their real estate ROI but realizing that they can't just tear down the very value proposition that they bought into (without even getting into the massive backlash they'd get from residents, lawsuits, bad PR etc).
A few holes may get a bit tighter but it shouldn't affect play all that much. There's only one Par-5 dog leg hole on eQuinelle where they've got houses too close for comfort (if you're a righty with a tendency to slice), and I can't imagine it getting much worse...

Rule #1 of golf course property. No house is safe from golf balls. Never under estimate the power of a bad golf swing.
Now that the pink house is being developed I think the only property bordering the golf course that can be developed is down the right side of #5. I have to imagine Mattamy is trying to buy that land but whoever owns it is holding out for more $$$.Not fat anymore. Need to get better at golf now!
