1/2" Short Shafts - Anyone Tried this?

I thought the short shaft thing was a bit of nonsense but I tried short Driver & 3W last week out of town.

Felt very easy to get on plane and definitely didn't lose distance, if anything gained it since more drives in the fairway and more centre/square hits.

Has anyone tried short shafts in their irons?

Im thinking this might help get on plane easier, have a harder time hitting a low hook with irons.

Assuming you don't adjust the lies, playing a 1/2" shorter has the effect of flattening the lie a little so that would help reduce the tendency to draw.

That said, nothing wrong with shortening by 1/2". If you don't want to cut the shafts you can also just try choking up a little since it's the same effect.

I think a lot of tour players use shorter driver shafts.

I usually cut down my driver shafts to play at ~44.5". More recently, I went a step further and put my Adams XTD driver head in a Diamana Kai'Li 3w shaft. Not once have I thought it felt strange or short - lots more control when I can tame my maniacal tendencies on the downswing.

In his prime, Tiger Woods played something like a 43" driver shaft...

I've had more success with my driver & woods when cutting them down for better contact. That being said, I personally didn't find shorter iron lengths to have as much of an effect. I've never been fitted though, so this is just through personal experience.
