Young golfer's family calls Air Canada's handling of stolen clubs 'below par'
Air Canada told golfer her clubs were on the next flight, but they showed up for sale on Kijiji

So the thief was someone passing through the airport at the same time (possibly on the same flight) and just picked up the clubs from the baggage area and waltzed out the door with them.
I'm amazed this sort of thing doesn't happen more often, and cannot for the life of me understand why a) baggage pick-up areas are open to the public, and b) why baggage tags aren't checked on the way out!! For all the hoops we travelers have to go through nowadays, it would be nice if the airlines/airport would do that one little thing to secure our items...

More disturbing is AC's claim that the clubs would be on the next flight, but they were in the wind already

She took her golf clubs to Timmins in December to practice? That is one tough golfer!

That's what you get with AC. My wife and I travelled to the same resort through different airlines at same time as our friends and the WestJet Attendant took care of us right away (before the kiosk) and printed off/attached all of our bag tags. Our friends at the Air Canada counter got somewhat less helpful service.
