???????????
What would be the ruling in the following situation? My buddy and I are not pros therefore we do our best to speed up play. I'm on the fringe and he's further away. I know I should have waited but I went ahead and hit the putt which would have ended either in the hole or real close. All the sudden his chip hits my rolling ball(his chip was too hard and my ball slowed his ball down). I ended up being much further from the hole and he ended up being a lot closer. In other words both balls are in motion. We both did not know what to do. I could not replace a ball that was in motion. So tell me please.What is the proper ruling in such a situation?

FYI - If your buddy's stroke was from the putting green, you would have incurred a two stroke penalty whether or not your balls made contact. See Rule 16-1f.

On a similar line Gary;
at the OGT Event yesterday, my ball at rest in a greenside bunker was deflected up onto the bank by a wayward 50 yard chipshot that stayed in the bunker. It was wayward wasn't it Pops?? After a little discussion I put my ball back in the bunker as close as possible.
Right??

Thank you Gary. Now what if 2 balls from different foursomes connected from 2 different fairways?

18-5. By Another Ball If a ball in play and at rest is moved by another ball in motion after a stroke, the moved ball must be replaced.
That's what we didIt could be that the purpose of your life is only to serve as a warning to others.

Hmmm, I knew that's what you did on the green, but Gary just said...
Neither ball was played from the putting green, so it is a rub of the green. Both balls are played as they lie without penalty. See Rule 19-1.

I guess the difference is that both balls were moving in the fist circumstance. My mistake.

Thanks anyway Dan. I did get up and down for a nice SANDY-PAR from the bunker.
BUT I know the chip-in for the Bird was coming from the sidehill buried lie where Pops hit me too.

If a ball in motion is accidentally deflected or stopped by any outside agency, it is a rub of the green, there is no penalty and the ball must be played as it lies except:
Rule 19 applies ONLY to a ball that is in motion. You cannot apply it to any other situation.
