    Drop or rehit

    Playing Equinelle hole number 8.
    Pin in back.
Player is in the sand short to the right of the green.
Air mails the green with bunker shot and it lands in the water over the back of the green on the fly. (Tough shot)
The player took a drop just inside the red stake.
I am under the understanding he gets two club lengths to drop in.
I was wondering if this was the correct ruling?
It looked to me like the was no spot that wasn't closer to the hole.
Was it correct or should he have rehit from his original position?

    Almost certainly wrong.
He can't drop in the hazard.
    He can drop
    a) within 2 cl of where it entered the hazard but not nearer the hole.
Without knowing the exact layout, he may have been able to drop
    b) on the other side of the hazard at a point equidistant to the above but not nearer the hole
    c) on the 'flagline'. (ie a line from the hole, through the entry point as far as he likes
    d) hit from the original position

Because his shot was out of a bunker, I thought he had to re hit from that position or is that only if the ball lands out of bounds?
He who hits last, walks alone

If it goes OOB then that is his only shot.
If it goes elsewhere, he may hit from the same place but he will have other options depending on where it finishes.

Is the bunker new as Google Earth shows that there is no bunker on #8?

    Sorry hole 7. Number 8 is a par 3.

On #8 then, the player would be able to drop the ball within 2 club length of where it crossed the hazard margin, without going closer to the hole. Awkward lie, though.
