Bad news for the Casino Golf Course - Two holes are threatening wetlands.
The Quebec government is planning to turn the Hull Casino into a major tourist centre. However the top-class golf course have been shot down indefinitely by Environment Canada officials.
The course is planned to be built in Leamy Lake Park, near the junction of Ottawa and Gatineau rivers. The park is home to a variety of unusual wildlife.
A casino, a five star Hilton hotel, convention centre, theatre and a world class golf course would be a huge tourism destination. The Hotel will open in the fall of 2001
The government of Quebec paid about $3 million to the NCC for the building rights to operate the golf course.
Marcel Proulx, Hull-Aylmer Liberal MP, said he believes the federal government's environmental concerns can be met, and the wetlands protected.
