    Increasing rounds played

If a course cut its greens fees in half would they double their number of rounds played?

Does anyone know on average what percentage of tee times are used at local public courses?

likely no - it's usuall a factor of time and availability, not cost.
I got a fever. And the only prescription is more golf equipment.

I'm thinking similar to Jeff. Myself, like others, probably have a budget in mind when booking rounds. So cutting green fees would likely keep traffic similar at most courses, as some would simply play at a course they would otherwise think was too expensive. In this situation the lower-end course may lose some customers, or some would simply play more often as it would now be basically a 2 for 1.

On a similar topic I'm surprised more courses don't have a ladder systems for green fees. It seems many courses start to fizzle out by 11am, and start getting busy again at twilight. If they constantly reduced greenfees from late morning until twilight you might not only get additional green fees, but free up some earlier times for new green fee players (by pushing people wanting to save a few dollars later morning) or get additional twilight fees by pushing some twilight players a bit earlier that are willing to spend a few dollars more to get a round in.
