    Puerto Rico open

Can anyone tell me if Finau who won in Puerto Rico did the right thing in the final round when he hit his ball into the hazard, and took a penalty drop. I saw him drop his ball once, then he dropped it again and then he picked it up and repositioned it in the waste bunker. It just seemed odd to me. It was well televised and no one seemed to think there was a rules infraction. Thanks and much appreciated.

If ball moves two times during the drop process, I believe you then have to place it at the spot it landed during the second drop attempt.

There's a tad more to it than that.

So was he allowed to re-position the ball after the second drop or did he have to re-drop it?

Would someone care to elaborate on exactly what happen as there are many reasons in the rules where a player would be permitted to re-drop before placing?

Thanks Geoff, if i remember, i did not see his ball move on the second drop and it looked fine, no issues. I just dont understand why he replaced the ball without dropping as usual.

If the ball ended up closer to the hole than the original lie it must be re-dropped. If it happens on the second drop it has to be placed rather than dropping over and over and over again.

I forgot to add "nearer/closer to the hole" in my first reply.

That would make sense. There was no official close by to monitor all this so could not see if his ball was closer to the hole after the second drop.
