    Rule 33-1/6

I see that Rule 33-1/6 states that you cannot play a match and a stroke play competition at the same time.

My question is does a stableford scoring system meet the criteria to be the stroke play competition? Or said another way can you play a match and turn in a stableford score from the same round?

Assuming the answer is that no you cannot what is the consensus on the committee making a local rule to allow this?

Stableford is simply a form of stroke play with a different scoring system.

Rule 32 - Bogey, Par and Stableford Competitions
    32-1. Conditions

Bogey, par and Stableford competitions are forms of stroke play in which play is against a fixed score at each hole. The Rules for stroke play, so far as they are not at variance with the following specific Rules, apply.

Thanks- do you have any thoughts on local rule to this to occur. We have members who want to play matches on men's night and then post a stableford score.

As it says in the Rule "Certain specific Rules governing stroke play are so substantially different from those governing match play that combining the two forms of play is not practicable and is not permitted. The result of a match played in these circumstances is null and void and, in the stroke play competition, the competitors are disqualified."
eg. hitting another player's bag, order of play, concessions

There is an inference here that suggests that if a rule of golf does not suit the kind of play desired that the Committee can just make a local rule allowing it. While there are certain permissible local rules allowed by the rules, Rule 33-1 specifically states that "The Committee has no power to waive a rule of golf."
