Hitting Ball in Hazard and Not Getting Out

So here is the scenario. You hit your ball on a par 3 and it hits the bank and rolls down into a red-staked hazard. Crossed the margin. Instead of taking a drop, you decide you can play the ball. Take your swing and hit the ball but don't advance it much and it is now in a much worse position. Now what are your options?

Can you now decide to take a drop you should have before?

Declare the ball unplayable, and if so what are your options now?

    Other possibilities?

    Cheers, Mike

Yes, you can take relief from the hazard based on where the ball last crossed the margin of the hazard even though you have taken a stroke at the ball while it was in the hazard.

You cannot declare the ball unplayable in a water hazard.

Thanks. I somehow thought that taking that stroke in hazard changed your options.

If the stroke from the hazard caused the ball to cross the margin and then come back in it would change the point for relief, but the options would remain the same.

It was not mentioned, but you have to count that stroke taken in the hazard.

Yes, of course you'd have to count that stroke. Appreciate the input as I've seen this situation several times and was never sure of exactly how to proceed. Cheers, Mike
