Golf Balls in the Fairway
In my round this weekend my friend and I both hit drives and we thought the would be close to each other. Both balls ended up lined up along the length of the hole, essentially touching. Whats the ruling on playing the ball (s)? Does the rear golfer hit the ball as is and they both play the result? Is a penalty induced anywhere?

The player nearer the hole should mark and lift his ball and allow the other to play.
Unless on the green, the lifted ball may not be cleaned.
If the second player's lie is affected by the stroke (eg a divot hole), he may either restore the area (if possible) or place the ball on the nearest equivalent spot within 1cl not nearer the hole.
