    good bye Vieux Moulins

Its official, course has been sold and more homes to be built, this market in Gatineau is already saturated with homes and condos for sale that are not selling.I don't get it,too bad but it was a half decent course and it was 2 minutes from my place.

The writing was on the wall. They have not been upkeeping it for a few years now. Its a shame as we dont need any more housing developements in Gatineau .

Ya, it all makes sense now. The greens used to be half decent but the last 2 years have been horrible. I liked the layout, it's too bad.

Maybe they should sell the sod from the greens ---then we all could have putting surfaces in our back yards
    Does the 2nd hole-n-one come easier ?

That would presume they had 'greens' to begin with....hmmmm?

The greens have always been( and are now) in mint condition believe it or not. The fairways were always cow pasture but a little better this year since there was no drought. The only bad thing though for a good part of the year were the no-see-um bugs. The course offered some good challenges and since it was not so crowded you could easily get an 8 o'clock round within 4 hours.

The course is sold, but now there needs to be a zoning change. Last time I checked (yesterday), no development is permitted. With the housing market in a slump, I forecast that the course will still be there for a few years.
I Wonder what the surronding homeowners who payed a premium to have a back yard on a golf course are thinking now. They were complaining about a few errant golf balls. Now they might have to worry about multiplexes.

I thought the land belonged to the NCC and these 2 guys from up the valley rented it from them-----the same deal as with Champlain ? Are these not the same guys that partnered with CG to run Pineview which is also on NCC property---funny all the different stories you hear ?????????
    Does the 2nd hole-n-one come easier ?

Champlain land is owned by NCC. Golf is operated by BBC (Brigham, Baker, Charron). Vieux-Moulins was owned by the Elliott Bros. from Shawville or somewhere up in the O. V.. They purchased it when the original owner filed for bankruptcy. They sold it to Stan Brigham who then sold it to Regional Group of Companies. (I think they are the ones behind eQuinelle) Legal battles resulted from sponsors getting involved. I believe the legal issues are now settled unless appeals are still possible. Stan Brigham also is the greenskeeper at the Gatineau Golf Club and is also involved in the Pineview. He was also the one that built the Dome Golf Club now known as Hautes-Plaines property of Clublink.

I don't know when you played there, it's true that the greens had a rough start this year but right now they are as good as any. Most of the fairways have always been hard, but holes 2, 4, 8, 12, 15 and 17 were still decent and very playable. If you add to those 6 holes, the five par 3's, I think you got your moneys worth at $42 for two 18 hole green fees.
I feel that I learned to play golf there. Having to manage, bare lies, tough bounces, no two sand traps the same, you have to use all of your skills to score. As captain that year, and that best illustrates what I am talking about, I am most proud of the 2011 intersectional team. We scored 57 points out of a possibility of 60.

Played it today for the first time in a few years because I wanted to play it one last time. Conditions are the best that I can remember it being. Some tee boxes and fringe need to be mowed but it is real green. With a last minute deal with one of the discount groups really glad I played it.

Looks like Les Vieux-Moulins will be in operation for at least one more year. Appeal filed.

Always liked the layout of the course - they just could never do anything about the concrete fairways. It was close to downtown Ottawa, always available, decent price. I'll miss it, in a way. It was always a good Plan C.
