Relief from Bunker for a Different Hole

Someone told me that they were watching an LPGA event on TV, when a golfer was allowed to remove her ball from a bunker, with free relief, on the basis that the bunker was part of a different hole than the one she was playing.

Is this true, and if so, is there some rule or decision that can be cited.

It is not true. Therefore no rule or decision to be cited.

We briefly discussed this issue on our online meeting on Monday but were unable to find any information about what actually happened. The player involved was Julieta Granada. If you find a link to this incident, please post it.

Could it have been that the bunker(s) were on a different course than the one being played and had been marked as GUR? This happens when the Cdn Open is played at Hamilton, and on the "extra" 12th hole at Glen Abbey.

Yes this is exactly the situation. I was watching it and wondering why she was talking a free drop from the bunker but it turns out that the bunker she landed in was on a hole from another course. The hole was being used as a parking lot for the tournament and therefore considered GUR.

You'd think they would have put some OB stakes at the property line.

I wonder if they made a ruling on the run (Dec 34-2/1) or had actually anticipated the problem with a Local Rule.

No local Rule necessary when the bunkers are marked as GUR with white paint.

That is an option that the Committee can consider. The "property line " may be irrelevant if both courses are on the same property. The Committee is on site and can make the appropriate decision.
