10' Wide Projector
I know there have been many threads about projectors, but I haven't been able to find one that answers the q I have. My setup is using a 10' wide screen and budget is around 1100. The room will also be used for cinema purposes and does not get a lot of natural light. Here are the 2 projectors I am currently considering:
Benq MH740 - not sure how it will do with cinema and sports viewing
Benq HT1085ST - not sure if 2200 Lums is bright enough
Can someone who has experience with these please offer suggestions?

I have the Benq 1080st and find that the image is very good, but I believe that I have posted elsewhere that I wish it were a little brighter. For the price I am happy and also the short throw is workin great as I can get very close to the screen with no shadow. My screen is 12 feet wide and so the projector is far enough back from where I hit that I am not concerned with hitting it. At 10'feet I would make sure you have no issues as well. My thoughts are that you don't go with this projector if you cannot control the light and also if you have a light in front of the projector, then this would also be a no go. Hope this helps!

I have the Optoma GT760 which I really like. They now have the Optoma GT1080 which has seemed to get great reviews. May be worth a look. If you want a short throw, check it out.

How far back are you from the screen when you are hitting and where did you install the projector?

Dax which projector would you recommend - my screen is 12' wide. How far is your hitting area from the screen? Distance from screen to projector and installed height? Can you fill the screen with image? Do you loose picture quality if you zoom?
Thanks for sharing!

Shine, let me get these measurements for you tonight and take some pictures for you.
In terms of projector, I do like the 1080st and have no issues in using it and have no plans on changing. The big comment is that I would prefer if it were brighter and thus, if you can't control the lighting you might want to look elsewhere.

Shine, my Hitting area to screen is between 11 feet to 13 feet. Screen to projector is approx 10.5 feet (benq 1080st). Projector is a little over 8 feet above my mat. My screen is about 11 foot wide and I have chosen to zoom the image a little to fill more of the screen. I will post some pics here and try and send you an email with pics as well.

I decided to buy the Benq 1085ST and would like additional input on the placement. I would like to hit from 12' in front of the screen which is 12'x9' the ceiling is 9' 7" and I want the image to fill the screen. My concern is where to mount the projector out of harms way. Which would be the safest location from the screen - 10'6" ?, or directly over the hitting area 12' ?, or maybe 14' ? I'm assuming the projector lens should be at 9' (is that correct)? Many thanks to everyone who willingly shared their ideas. I will post step by step pictures of my installation.

Put it on a ladder and test it out. That's the best thing.
