Funeral
The 1 iron just about passed away although Jack says his most memorable shots came from his trusty 1 iron.

I remember when John Daly was playing Wilson clubs and they made him a 0-iron. It had about 10º of loft. Now that's crazy...

Just for a little update, because of the windy conditions, Joey Sindelar put the 1 iron back in the bag this week, so there is still one guy using one!!!

Olazabal used his almost exclusively off the tee when he won the World Series of Golf at Firestone back in the early 90's. He couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with his woods that week, and at the time Firestone was one of the longest courses on tour.

Ah ... the 1 iron
I've got a Titleist Tour Blade 1iron as well as a Wilson Staff Tour Blade 1 iron. I simply cannot part with either one of them. BC Mist, I understand your sentimental attachment to them. But it's only the "old guys" who really ever used them. Maybe our affection for them says more about our own ages and an age gone by than anything else.

Using a 1 iron is like going to the casino - sometimes you win; most of the time, you lose. I just happen to hit the jackpot that day.
I agree with SH, that perhaps other than watching a 40 foot putt dive into the hole, (which SH actually did to me on 15 in the 2001 Club Championship ) there is no greater sensation in golf than hitting a low screaming long iron (1 iron) off the centre of the club face. Of course, with the demise of the 1 iron, most posters here will never experience this moment of pure ecstasy.

I built a 2-iron for a guy last week. I tried to talk him into a hybrid instead but he insisted. He loves it.
I used to carry a 1 iron and a 2 iron but I've even given up my 3-iron so I can carry 4 wedges and a hybrid. I just found that the number of times I needed the long irons didn't justify carrying them. I can hit the H3 220 yards, dead straight, from almost any lie.
