    No Golf Canada Certification???

ok ... Spoke in an earlier post about a first class course in the London area - Forest City National - no longer having a Golf Canada rating and slope. Found out Bearbrook no longer pays its fees and thus is no longer rated. Today, I find out that one of my favourite east end course - Nation - is now no longer rated. Are there any others in the Ottawa Valley which are no longer rated by Golf Canada? Could this be a the trend I'd the future in golf?

I am using the mobile Golf Canada app on my iPad. When I enter Nation in Curran, Ontario it advises me that the club is no longer a member of Golf Canada etc.? Just tried...again?

For a Golf Canada handicap to be considered valid you are not to enter rounds at non-member clubs, as ludicrous as that is.

I have noticed that those clubs that I have played who have chosen not to pay their fees have removed their slope and ratings from their scorecards (and rightfully so...).

I do not know the specifics, however, I inderstand it to be in the thousands as opposed to the hundreds.

For clubs that are members of Golf Québec (The OVGA is affilited with Golf Québec). I don't know about clubs affiliated with Golf association of Ontario.

Private and Semi-Private Club (Category I): Defined as having members who pay annual dues. The minimum number of adult members for this category is 60. All Golf Québec membership cards are issued through the clubs.

    Dues per member:

    Adults: $29
    Juniors: $15

Public Club (Category III): Defined as a golf operation that only allows green fee play and has NO members. Membership cards are not issued for this category.

    Annual Fees:

    $500 per each nine holes.

This makes sense....the clubs I have identified are semi-private. 300 members at 30 per adds up pretty quick.

Not really, as the costs are almost always passed on to the members (or at least a portion thereof) as part of the annual dues.

Doubtful membership fees would have diminished at these courses, however. Therefore, it becomes additional $$$ for the course towards the bottom-line.

Then their memberships should be complaining vehemently as they are getting diminished services for the same price.

Category I courses usually identify the association fees on the membership dues invoice, as they are charged on a per-member basis. For them it is strictly an in-and-out item.

In the case of Bearbrook and Nation, the issue may be that their membership has fallen below 60 members so now the club has to pay $1,000 out of their own pocket. The only way to really know why they are dropping out is to ask club ownership or perhaps a member of the affected club.
