Still a bit of magic in the sticks...

Those that know me are aware my amount of playing time has diminished over the years. No more shift work, having kids, golf has taken a few steps down on the priority department.

When I get out now I try to enjoy it more but its tough sometimes when I think back to how well I used to play (all-time low of a 2.7 cap).

Until this year I hadn't broken 80 in almost 2 years. I have done it 3 more times since. But today was special.

7:26 tee time at Greensmere Premier today. I have been working a lot this week and was quite tired this morning. But knowing I wouldn't be playing for 2-3 weeks, I had to join my buddies.

Slashed it around the front nine in 40, which was a pleasant surprise as it felt higher. Double bogeyed 10 (after trying to play safe with an iron off the tee) and thought to myself I'm tired and the wheels may start to come off.

Stood on the 11th tee and just said to myself have fun, you could be doing worse things today. Parred 11 and 12, almost drove the green on 13 (made birdie), parred 14 and 15, then the fun started. Almost dunked my approach for eagle on 16 (made birdie). Drove the green on 17, easy two putt birdie.

Standing on 18 I thought eagle would end my round -4 on the last 3 holes. Hit my drive just short of the hazard left, hit a beauty draw 5 iron to 6 feet and just missed the eagle as it slid a mere inch or two by the cup. Tap in bird.

All in all, a 74 with a -2 back nine. And the best part, I had no idea I was playing that well. Just plodded along joking and laughing with my pals.

A great day that I just had to share as those that know me realize how frustrated I am with my game sometimes. It was nice to have a blast from the past!!

Nice man. The tough part about a great round is expecting more for the next one.

I fully expect the round will be in the 90s to re-balance the universe. LOL!

    Great post
The young kids are keeping my # of rounds low as well, but this story cheered me up.

Why no golf for 2 or 3 weeks? Saving yourself for the Golf-o-Max? HAHA!

So thats who stole my back 9 score! Teed off shortly after you, I finished the front 9 with a 39 including a double on 4, then jumped aboard the bogie train until a birdie on 17. Missed a 6ft birdie putt on 18 and walked off with 80. I've got a goal of 3 rounds in the 70s this year, that could have been the 3rd one. Just needed some magic coming in like you.

    Good job out there

Great round Bud---just goes to show that when you go out to "enjoy"---great things happen Nothing like a round with your good buddies.
    Does the 2nd hole-n-one come easier ?

So the follow up round was on the Legacy course and put up a scrambling 80. Pretty pleased with that for Legacy and other than two bad tee shots which cost me a double each time, could have easily been another sub 80 round. Pretty happy with my play of late.
