Pump drill and making a swing

Been having issues with the driver (what else is new...) and was playing the other day using the pump drill as part of my actual swing. I.e. make a backswing, pump down and back up a couple times and then actually hit the ball say on the third "pump" down.

Is this legal in actual play?

Apart from looking strange, it is rather effective (at least for me.... stupid driver)

    Cheers,

No problem, whichever version you use.

Mike Weir used to do this as part of his routine as well.

Of course you ask after the fact, good thing I wasn't playing with you CHEATER!!!

Maybe you should swing one handed like you do with your driver.

I seem to recall he went back to address prior to swinging as opposed to making a couple pumps before hitting the ball. I am not going back to address.

I only putt one-handed! And better than you two-handed

Ah, you're right. I guess yours sounds more like Charles Barkley's?

Remember that a stroke is the forward movement of the club with the intent of hitting the ball.Since there is no intent on hitting the ball on the first two pumps, the stroke is fine.

I was trying this in my backyard last night and it felt to me like alot of power would be lost swinging like this, do you find you've lost alot of distance?

Ha ha! Did not want to think of it that way. It's MUUUCH more fluid than a Barkley's!

On the contrary, the solid contact and better ball flight equals greater effective distance than I was getting.
