Arnprior
Well,my first time playing this track, lovely fairways but hardest greens to read. Its rather a boring course, almost every hole seems like the last.

I have to disagree with your comment about each hole being the same as last, each hole turns a different direction and offers a whole new set of obstacles. Very pretty layout with great views of the Ottawa River. Overall a great deal for $1200 for a full adult membership and depending on your age goes down from there.

I agree that the views of the Ottawa River are very nice, but as far as a challenging course, not really.Just my opinion.

You said greens were hard to read and now you say the course isn't challenging? So you played blue tees and shot what score? Just curious...

Honestly his tee selection and score would never satisfy a confrontation like that. Even a high handicapper can tell the difference in challenge between Bethpage Black and less dramatic course. Lots of people like courses to scare them to death and beat the crap out of them. Not sure why, but it's true. They sit in cars all night at Bethpage lol.

I don't think anyone one has ever said it was the most difficult or hardest course in the area---it does have some of the smallest greens and decent length holes. I'm sure it's a decent test for most of us 16 HCers.
Does the 2nd hole-n-one come easier ?

I have been a member at arnprior for 2 years now. Anyone who says this course is not difficult can come play with me anytime and show me how to get around with ease. This year has been a test and I have shot some of my worst scores in years. There is not one hole you can say is an easy par.
I have a scoring average of 81.3 at arnprior. In 10 rounds that I have played at other clubs I have an average of 77.1.

Ok so this is where we see both sides of it... The OP says it offers no challenge then a member says there isn't a single easy par... It is safe to assume that it falls somewhere in between... I think it is a super nice course with some easier holes and some challenging holes and if they speed the greens up, it becomes a very tough test... From the tips...

Dan, I think it is more than fair to ask what score someone shoots and what tees they play when they say a course offers no challenge... Because if they are playing whites and shooting 85, then clearly the course is a challenge...

Totally disagree. You do not have to be a great player to express an opinion. That's like saying you cant dislike a song if you can't play guitar. I see it all the time on forums and its just a way of dismissing and belittling someone who has an opinion that's different than yours. Ridiculous logic and it's insulting.

We are not talking about liking or disliking, we are talking about if a course offers a challenge or not... The OP stated that Arnprior offers no challenge. I have no problem if someone says they do not like Arnprior, or do not like certain holes at Arnprior, but to say it offers no challenge is a `ridiculous`statement if you are not constantly shooting GREAT scores!
Using your analogy, if I said that playing a certain song offers no challenge, but when I play I constantly make mistakes, then clearly it is a challenge!

I will never understand the people who think you have no right to an opinion unless you are an expert. Pretty elitist to run down others opinions in this way in my opinion. I am disappointed with this attitude being thrust on people here.

So are you suggesting that negative opinions stated politely be censored? That would not be an acceptable practice. Can you say 'uproar'? LOL

Totally agree. Heavy censorship isn't the solution though. You can't force people to only say positive things.

Dan - He's not asking for heavy censorship. He's asking the OP for the basis of his opinion. If he went out and shot 61 at Arnprior then he may have a valid point. If he shot 110, then how does he come to his conclusion. I see no problem with asking someone to back their opinion. If they can't/won't....it's just trolling in my opinion.

In my opinion anyone can have any opinion. If he is saying its a fact it should be validated. Opinions do not need validation.

What is the purpose of course rating and slope? The CR for Arnprior is 68.4 from the Blue, and 120 Slope. These are the back tees.
Pineview is 70.9/124 from the back tees.
Now unless I totally misunderstand the CR and Slope rating for courses, Pineview is said to be "harder" or "more challenging" than Arnprior.
In my honest opinion, someone who plays the course on a regular basis, or even once in a while, SHOULD score close to, or below their cap there (Pineview). This is my opinion...
Not to mention, what difference does it make if the OP played Blue or Whites? There's a 200 yard difference over 18 holes!! HAH! It's not like he'd be going from 5500, to 6000 yards by changing tee blocks.
And finally....Just because someone shot a certain score from a certain tee box, has no bearing really on how challenging a course may be to that certain person. What if they had an off round? What if they played poorly because they didn't know the layout? I know I've shot HORRIBLE scores at courses that were NOT challenging at all. I just had a bad putting day, or had no clue where the "safe" play was as far as course management.
I'll say that I have never played Arnprior. So I cannot share my opinion on it, but I don't think the score matters...Last edited by Txxxxxxx; 07-21-2014 at 01:17 PM.

I agree with Txxxxx, isn't this what slope and rating are for? Course layout and personal preference will ALWAYS be subject to opinion and personal bias.
