Golf courses in Scotland are public walking areas If you are traveling with a non-golfer, he or she is free to walk along with you as you golf or walk anywhere on the golf course except the greens. Golf courses are pleasant to walk, the scenery stunning. Just be sure to keep an eye out for the golfers, give them the right of way, and watch out for those unexpected golfballs !!!

I'm Scottish and I have played 4 different courses in Scotland---they actually allow walkers and it seems to be no problem---the walkers and the golfers give each other "right of way" and say thank-you with a big wave or a thumbs up after a good shot.

I play Kanata quite often and can attest to the issue, but I am fairly certain any course that is in an urban setting such as Kanata is would deal with those issues, you would need 18 marshalls patrolling the course. As you said you play the course late, you can't expect to have marshalls on the clock just to chase kids off the course, everyone that plays Kanata knows of this and shouldn't be a surprise, and immigrants are not the only problem trust me.

Most of the coarses in Scotland ( apart from the big name ones ) you get every kind of person walking on the coarse , youngsters sneaking onto the coarse with one old club , kids running onto the coarse to steal the flags , courting couples in the trees , drugged up lunatics with there pittbulls , believe me I have seen it all on golf coarses in Scotland , and just for the record I had to go for an English speaking test to become permanent resident in Canada 😡

OK kids. Let's drop the topic of whom and focus on the what. Trespassing. Who is really irrelevant and does not need to be part of the discussion. Especially when bringing race into it.

Dan... why not edit the original post. The question is sort of OK but the way it was put was way out of line. I am happy that Jeff and others set that person (I am polite here) straight. Gratuitous comments shouldn't be allowed by saying there is a question in there...

kinda hard when the weave through the neighbourhoods like Kanata and Stonebridge. Loch March has a fence as well. That's a lot of fence though.

I wonder what the Gatineau does about it. They have signs but surely anyone from the neighborhood can cut across the course although I have not seen too many but it surely gets worse before darkness

Complaining about a couple of people walking on a coarse in canda minding there own business is really not a massive issue in the great scheme of things

I am pretty sure this is where it gets trickey----According to some laws and jurisdictions--if you are moving across a property you are not trespassing---if you linger or whatever then you are trespassing.

I know this is going to bring all kinds of comments but that is the problem--is it a federal law--provincial law--bylaw or just a rule ?????

Back to Europe----there is private property but you are allowed to cross it--providing of course you close gates behind you etc etc.

Now---I am not saying you are can purposely walk through someone's back yard while they are having a BBQ or what ever but I have had issues with a large piece of property here and the result was--- let them walk.

I am not sure about the rest of you fellas but do you want to live in a gated community where EVERYTHING you do must conform to rules that seem ridiculous to normal people.

Maybe a sign that simply says--"proceed at your own risk" might be enough.

Resisted chiming in on this thread, but whatever.

The problem with people walking on the course really comes down to liability.

When you pay your greens fees as a golfer you are assuming a certain amount of risk by being on the golf course. The other golfers on the course also expect you to be there and assuming they see you can yell fore if a golf ball is heading towards you.

If a pedestrian is on the course in an unexpected location and a golfer doesn't see them they would never yell fore for a ball heading towards them. What happens if they are hit and injured?

It gets to the point of stupidity. example: In Georgia this past winter they argued forever about passing a law making it legal to bring your gun to church. The law eventually passed.

You just can't fix stupid.

@ Talktomyball... How many times have you spoken with the ProShop or General Manager about the issue? Do you own a cell phone? Did you call the ProShop immediately when these distractions occurred?

And this is the crux of the problem. If somebody is injured because they are not where they are supposed to be, who is liable?

Common sense would say they are, but common sense and lawsuits do not always intersect.

How smart would you look going back to your wife and having to explain why your kids have bruises on their heads because little timmy was playing on the 15th.

I haven’t run into trespassers yet on a course (knock on wood). Letting folks walk through, while they yield the right of way to the golfers is absolutely fine (I believe someone said it’s like that in Scotland). If I’m being held up by folks who shouldn’t be on the course in the first place though, then I’m aiming straight at them - to practice my stinger!

Could happen even though not on the course, I've seen balls fly over the Royal Ottawa fence that runs along Aylmer road.
Alongside the Champlain number 10 there is a bike path and I have found golf balls there. Same thing alongside Lucerne at the Chateau Cartier. Some homeowners living close to golf courses have had balls land or fly though their backyard.
